But LDP government and economy groups have interest nothing besides defending profit of themselves.

Elvis, you run a 乾物店 business? Nice!

Japan is a place to visit, not live a nice life. Those days are long gone.

People have been saying that since I first arrived there in the '90s. Yet people still keep coming.

Businesses that won’t pay a living Wage shouldn’t exist.

I agree with you. But be prepared to see the death of Japanese restaurants.

So you will be giving your staff a pay rise?

Good idea. Not much profit in the 乾物店 business though.

@Chabbawanga

And a lot of businesses cant afford it.

Very good point! Some companies have a very small profit margin and low revenue. The Government should focus on alternate ways of helping its citizens rather than just requesting businesses to increase wages!

Specious point.

Businesses that won’t pay a living Wage shouldn’t exist.

They are propped up by corporate welfare, lenient capital markets , quantitative easing and regressive taxation schemes favoring capital over labor.

How families were not subsidized but businesses were during the pandemic was one example of this.

The Government should focus on alternate ways of helping its citizens rather than just requesting businesses to increase wages! This increase the wages will not happen as if they do the companies will collapse! The Government can focus on reducing household taxes, daily necessities taxes, utilities bills and also regulating prices of certain food products in supermarkets which are excessively high ( there should be a maximum retail price set so that supermarkets can’t sell for higher than that )!

Please don't print more money!!

Raising minimum wage will force them to increase salaries across the board.

And a lot of businesses cant afford it.

Something's got to give. Wages go up, prices go down. One or the other.

So you will be giving your staff a pay rise?

No mention of taxes here. Japanese taxes right now are crippling. In the boom years there was no consumption tax and income tax was much less. You got to keep the money you earned. Now you don't. It goes for LDP members' "entertainment expenses" and twice yearly bonuses. No wonder fewer people want to start a family. We can't afford it!

Many companies in Japan have their annual salary revision in April, once a year. (Imagine the calamity of poor corporations if it was multiple times a year.) We will see next month, in person, how our wages have increased same percentage as previous years, bare minimum. Then J'Govt can keep their stupid ultra-loose monetary policy and will try again in April'25 to nicely ask corporations to increase employee salaries. Same sh*t, every year.

"" The latest figure suggests some sections of society have failed to see wage rises in line with inflation despite government calls for companies to better support their workers.""

So Sad to see so many people struggling to make ends meet, and what's even more sad is I don't see any one Complaining or Demonstrating, is this Trust, Submission, Giving Up, Humble, or Terrified??

The latest figure suggests some sections of society have failed to see wage rises in line with inflation despite government calls for companies to better support their workers.

You can ask companies or you can force companies. Raising minimum wage will force them to increase salaries across the board. Better yet, lower the tax burden on necessities like food so that we may survive during this time of stingy employers not giving their workers a raise.

JGovt thinks that because they are asking companies, wages will be rise just like that? Cutting their profit for their employee wage? There are also business consideration those company have to consider, in case JGovt forgot.

But....but.....but....the Nikkei is at all-time high, right.

Everything must be hunky-dory.

Everything will be fine indeed, for the rich that is...
