11 years, marking 3-11 event.

Of course everyone feels sorry for what happened to these people, but wouldn’t the money the government is spending to “decontaminate” the area be better spent giving it to those displaced families to set up their lives somewhere else? I think it’s highly unrealistic to think that the government can really decontaminate and bring these towns back to life. Sometimes you just have to accept reality and cut your losses.
I suspect the few people who will actually move back are very elderly and will simply go back to die in their hometown eventually.

ALLOWED to move back, but do they really want to?
You’d think everyone had moved on in the last decade and found life, elsewhere.
It should be interesting to see how property of land ownership will commence when some families never return.

I find that a strange comment. Is the issue not whether such radioactive materials still exist in the affected areas, and if so, in what quantities?

If you are very old, no reason not to move back.

It’s called a disaster for a reason. After 11 years it’s still mostly or nearly, no mostly if your town has a cut off point of safety at that building on the left with tape on it. Don’t go there. It’s just a way for TEPCO and the Government to stop supporting the victims. They have such big heats? Better to spend money on things like Abe san masks nobody uses then support victims of LDP policy. Oh the LDP have made things such a fantastic place to live.? Expect nothing but a bill.

It’s great that Japan can change science, and ionizing radionuclides can disappear by making a government decision.
it’s no longer true that Strontium and Cesium have half-lives of over 30 years, and Plutonium 88.7 years. Tritium 11.8 years, Americium 433.2 years.
all these are now 11 years. Please throw away your science books.

Rodney- Hit the nail on the head! Excellent post!

Really - agriculture? Of all the possible industries out there that could be used to 'revitalize' the area they are going with the one that needs to use the local contaminated soil to grow food. Deary me, talk about missing a massive opportunity.
No, it's really not. Stop pining for the past and think towards the future for once. They've had 11 years to put plans in place for something different which could take the area forward, but it seems that 11 years has just been wasted.
