Other participants have been drawn due to an interest in seeing locations shown in the Oscar-nominated film "Perfect Days," which follows the simple life of a public toilet cleaner in Tokyo played by Koji Yakusho, Nishi said.

Perfect Days is a great movie. I'd encourage anyone -- particularly those looking for something a little different -- to see it.

No big budget CG, no superheroes, no fuss: just an engrossing tale that will make you think.

As isabelle wrote, go see Perfect Days. It's great. You'll either love it or hate it.

Thank you JT, for not calling them "bathrooms."

As the movie becomes more well-known, more people will want to go on these tours.

With great respect - even as a Japanophile - this sounds like the most ridiculous and boring "tour" in history.

Loitering around public toilets, taking photos... I m sure it will attract a certain clientele..

So, call them "washrooms" instead. Or do you prefer an entire room being your personal toilet?

Mr. Kipling: "Loitering around public toilets, taking photos... I m sure it will attract a certain clientele.."

My thoughts exactly. We read about the "tourism" of toilets all the time here, it's just usually in the crime section and involves cameras in junior high schools.

A Rose is a Rose, and a toilet is a WC no matter how you turn it, color you may paint it, fancy you may make it or use it. don't like the idea of transparent when not in use! who wants to look toilets for 4,950JPY?

It is cool to see public restroom with great art.

Nice to see that they have toilets for men, women and the handicap!

Quite an interesting diversity of toilets:

Would probably check them out if I were in the respective areas, but I don't think I'd do the tour. The ones in Nishisando and Nanago Dori Park look the most tranquil places to take care of business, though perhaps less so if there are lots of toilet tourists milling around with their cameras. The ones that turn opaque look interesting, though it would be awkward if something broke and they turned transparent again while one is sitting on the throne.

There are no "handicap" toilets. There are specially fitted toilets for people with disabilities, and injuries, and mothers who need to change their babies' diapers.

Being a regular user I am very happy with the standard of them. Always clean.

Nonsense

There's a mens , ladies and disabled thats also designed for those other gender + types of humans

Can you read the symbols ?

Handicapped and disabled are the same category

Call it the loo. No gross depictions, no misnomers like bathroom, washroom, or john. Men's room and ladies room are all right, too.

The Japanese cleanliness makes these worth seeing, in my opinion. In the states there are no loos. One has to find a store or restaurant close by, some of which won't let you use their facilities. It's wonderful (wait till you really have to go, you'll call it wonderful, too) that these are there to use. I'd take the tour if only to find out where that are for later emergencies.

Outdated terms. Toilets for people with special needs. They are not designed with transexuals in mind.

In Japanese, “People with disabilities” is “障がい者 (Sho-gai-sha).” “障がい(Sho-gai)” means disability and “者(sha)” means person. You can write this word in three different ways with the same pronunciation: “shou-gai-sha” All three options start with shou, but the second character has different interpretations.

for 4,950 yen per person. They last for around two hours at a time, with participants allowed to use the facilities.

Only if I'm desperate.

Same thing almost every month when I ask my wife to relax while I take my son to the WC to change his diapers just to find changing tables are only available inside women's bathrooms. They should start fixing this first.

They are available in the disabled toilets. But not always so easy to find.

Nice to see they are spending tax money to make toilets for people with different sexual orientations. Finally!
