The industry remains reliant on Soviet-designed technology and while new projects have been announced, such as a mission to Venus, their timeline and feasibility remain unclear.

Time to get the Buran out of mothballs.

It was a copy of the American space shuttle but demonstrated the capacity for automated flight and had several other tweaks that would have made it interesting if the Soviet Union hadn't collapsed.

@ReasonandWisdomNippon, it's his choice and his money. He can do whatever he want as a civilian and it's his right. No need to make it political. So far i know, citizens between both nation visit each other a lot more than you think as tourists.

He could do something useful for people who might need some help through no fault of their own - something to help society.

He should stay up there.

I find it ironic that it is the Russians that are doing this not the Americans...

And I think he could have used the money on something much more useful instead of being one more halfwit in space...

He should do us all a favour and stay in space.

I don't understand why the comments are being so nagetive. Since when is it a crime to be rich and do something cool for once? If you had that money, you would want to see space too and do a lot more crazy stuff before your life end. It's fine to be envious of him but you should not bash the guy just because he manage to made something out of his life. He gotten where he is with his own hand and want to use what he earn to do something for himself. When is that a crime? Not to mention he did a lot of good in Japan. I don't see the problem of him spending his money on his own happiness. Otherwise what's the point of living if you cannot dream big and seek your own happiness instead of trying to please those around you. We don't just live for others but also for ourselves too.

Another case of capitalism preventing progress. A qualified specialist should be going with the intent to push space exploration further.

we live in world where market economy works.

guy have money,have demand-found provider.

so yes business is done.

i dont understand that antirussian hate here especially in first comment which should be classified as hate/xenophobic/racist and yes to be removed from here?

just to keep rules fair and same for all here?

Apparently the Americans can't get the toilet to work, so you have to wear diapers. Cr@ppy experience, considering how much you pay..

Feels pretty much selfish to spend a crazy amount of money on a couple of space trips. No consideration to invest that money in helping others, in education, children care.. plenty of causes to fight for out there.

But the more money they have, the greedier they become.

Why isn't Ayame Goriki accompanying Maezawa???

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Maezawa is pathetic! He is still trying to buy friends and relationships!

2 ( +4 / -2 )

We should be sending Yusaku Maezawa ourselves.

Lack the technology and resources needed to gain that tech.

Letting SpaceX do it is one thing, letting the Russians do it is a direct insult. All we're doing is helping Russia get more recognition and fame which will be used against us in the end.

I think they have enough "recognition and fame". If they guy weren't paying them a huge amount of money, the closest he'd get to the Russian rocket is training for a Space X flight by cleaning the toilets.

Ask Ukraine about Russia. Fearing an invasion at any moment, already lost Crimea and a plane full of innocent passengers. The devil has a name and It's Putin, his home is Russia, he has the most nuclear weapons on Earth and not afraid to poison people or kill people.

Don't ask Ukrainians in any kind of genuinely democratic poll otherwise it's assured the result wouldn't be one you would like. As for nukes and killing people, I can sympathize with you. They have already shown a willingness to use them against densely populated urban areas of Japan, haven't they?

Should Japan be helping such a country and such a leader.... which we never signed a peace agreement since WW2.

What has "help" got to do with anything? Is there anything Japan is even capable of "helping" Russia with?

first Japan need to build a safe reliable affordable reusable rocket, before they even start ferrying tourist into space. while Japan can build reliable products, it very rare for them to make it affordable and reusable, quality no longer means premium prices, customers now expect reliable affordable and quality products all inclusive

Great example of Japanese-Russian collaboration. Thing is, when it not politicised, when it's on a individual level both sides mutually benefit from cooperation with each other. Go Maezawa - Go Roscosmos!

It’s just the taxi he’s taking to go there is a Russian model.

The hotel is the same place, the ISS.

(Unless they also go pay their respects at the CCP space station.)
