Russia is invading another country. Maybe you missed it.

Maybe it's going to Kaliningrad. If they're going to Ukraine, they will need to cross Turkey again and Turkey will not let them through.

They do not have enough landing craft for the all-out attack on Odesa. The few they do have are still busy at Mariupol. It makes sense to bring round what they have from Vladivostok. Russian armoured land forces advancing from the Crimea have been badly held up and Putin is angry at the Navy’s lack of support so far.

If Turkey does not allow them through, then they will either dock at the Russian base in Syria and wait for an opportunity or go round to Kaliningrad as ‘justasking’ says above.

Safe to say this intelligence was passed on the the Ukrainian authorities so that they can take action when the ships approach Ukraine coastline. Ie sink them!

By the time they arrive and unload their weaponry, hopefully the war will be over and Russia will have planted flowers in the rubble heaps they created before withdrawing.

If the Russian vessels did not enter Japanese territorial waters, on what grounds could they be challenged by the JMSDF?

This is key information I found on another source: "The Tsugaru Strait is designated as an international strait, meaning that areas 3 nautical miles or more from the coasts is regarded the same as the high seas and therefore open to foreign ships."

How many days it takes to go from east most part of Russia to West most part of Russia, where Ukraine is, by sea and by land?

And they weren't in Japanese waters.

In the early 20th century they sent a fleet from the Baltic to the east to be sunk. Now they are sending one the other way, same result? We hope so but wait and see.

It’s news in Japan because though it’s international waters it is very rare that Russia sends ships through that strait. Naturally the question arises why and for what purpose?

Sending troops and heavy armour by the trans Siberian rail line screws up all the scheduled traffic and supplies, is slow and they are known to be having difficulties so sending stuff by sea may be both easier and quicker.

Poo tin is stripping the eastern command to feed in to the meat grinder that his quick invasion of Ukraine has turned in to. Can China resist the temptation to take back the lands they claim are theirs from the Russian empire?

The Tsugaru Strait is international waters. Japan's territorial waters inside the strait extend only 3nm from the shores of Hondo and Hokkaido. Under international maritime law any nation's ships may transit those straits. Japan is not legally empowered to stop ships from using them.

Where it gets interesting is if those four ships attempt to pass through the Dardanelles. Turkey controls those straits under the terms of the Montreux Convention. That convention signed in 1936 and to which Russia is a signatory (as the USSR) allows Turkey to close the straits to naval vessels in times of war. Last week Turkey invoked that paragraph of the treaty. The only exception now is that Turkey cannot restrict passage of warships returning to their home base. Russia has already sent multiple similar ships from the Mediterranean through the straits into the Black Sea to conduct amphibious operations against Ukraine. They were already in the Black Sea before the war commenced. Now they cannot leave. I will be watching to see if Russia is going to try to send these four ships through the Dardanelles and what Turkey does if Russia tries. This folks could be how NATO gets sucked into a war with the Russians.

Only reason to hire foreign troops is cannon fodder why waste your good troops first when you can send in others to soak up the bullets.

No. The active duty strength of the Russian ground forces is 280,000. Of that total, there are 170 Battalion Combat Teams, the basic fighting unit of the Russian Army that are considered to be permanent readiness units. A battalion has 900-1000 troops at full strength so assuming all of those BCTs are fully manned (they are not) that gives the Russians 170,000 front line troops. The rest are support, logistics, communications and other non-combat specialties. Some of that 280K is also Army Aviation. About 150,000 front line troops were deployed to Ukraine, the great majority of Russia's BCTs.

Give a break? that's what Innocent Ukrainian mothers and children are asking Putin's hordes bombing them to do. Russians go home is like the Yankee go home cry of decades past. Russia is once again a pariah state.And while the Russian bombers s are being begged to go home, so are the Russian keyboard warriors cheering on their fellow invaders.

Something the Russians said today makes me think their destination isn't Ukraine but rather Bosnia.
