A love hotel in the city of Kawagoe, Saitama Prefecture, went up into flames just after midnight Tuesday, burning the entire building and killing one 26-year-old customer, police said Wednesday.

The man was found face-down on the bed in a room and had no apparent external injuries. Police are currently conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the blaze. According to police, the man had checked in on Monday evening by himself.

What a bad way to die. Alone face down in a love hotel.

Police say there are signs someone else might have been in the room with him at some point.

source? if somebody left him to die as the place was going up, without alerting anybody, how would the cops deal with that.

Maybe he was just hammered, having a smoke, and poof.

Love hotels are awesome for the price. I would use it too rather than a hotel if those were my 2 options.

Saitama again!?

Has there been any speculation that whoever he was with might have started the fire?

Talk about a hot date!

This is sad. I hope who ever he was with didn't get hurt either.

Sounds like the beginning of bad suspense drama.

Doesn't everyone checks into a love hotel by themself? hehehe

stirfry: "checked in by himself?"

Sure! I once went to a love-ho by myself after missing the last train; they are often MUCH cheaper than regular hotels, and have all the facilities and heaps of amenities. And if you can grab a theme room, even better! haha. It could also be a place to get away from the family for a night and find some peace and quiet. Not the most ideal, of course, but then there aren't too many affordable or better options.

Anyway, poor guy! The guy's family, assuming he has one, must be both heartbroken and wondering why he was where he was.

Why does Saitama get all the awesome news?

Most deaths in burning buildings are caused by smoke inhalation. Lots of toxic gases vent during the burning of the plastics/metals/materials in a developed fire. Don't even need to be near the heat source, just a breath can kill/incapicitate..

How romantic, dying in the flames of love (hotel).
