Future news may well be Robot elected to the Diet as the Japanese electorate found it to be the only candidate with a logical basis of common sense

Did anyone learn anything from all the Terminator Movies?

will the Robot be allowed to comment on JT? i wonder what will Robot say when Robot sees japanese beauties showing some skin. will Robot see this as something beautiful, positive and natural, or will Robot make disparaging negative comments?

As long as robot doesn't start leaking hydraulic fluid also good then

The beginning of the end of mankind

Mankind ends their actual existence on this planet before they physically disappear.

+1 for Kurzweil's Singularity

Don't worry - it will probably start thinking about sex most of the time. 8-) Which would be too bad because Sony could use a thinking robot to look at their cyber-security...

@all, who afraid robotic apocalypse: not gonna happen, because people are self-destructive. And that's good news. I'd like to develop robotic version of Ayanami Rei some day.

Everyone's aware that it would come down to this one day and, although, this could very well help in one big number of areas, it's non less true that, in the wrong hand and with the wrong intentions, it can be an amazingly powerfull object of wrong doing. Throught history we've seen what some can do in trying to "rule the world" or at least the majority of it and it was almost successfull for a few. In resume, great ideia, but caution will never be enough.

Instead of a thinking robot that can serve tea (which we already can do just fine on our own), how about a thinking robot that can work in a highly radioactive location?

Patience, Fadamor. I'm sure that's no more than a week or two away.

Well this is just another neccessary step to get household androids...I sure as hell would love for my mom to have one so she won't try and call me with some crazy chore when I'm busy with work and my own personal life.

I, for one, welcome our new robot overlords.

GGood news is AI, not the fact about self-destructive humans.

Japan Today and the Japan Times need to work on their headlines. The often read like Buddhist kôans and have me scratching my head for a minute before reading the article. How about "Scientist unveils world's first thinking robot"? Saves you two words that you can use later. Waste not, want not.

good start... Japan will be leading ......

One question: Will these robots have teeth like the Terminators?

Imagine to build a Mazinger Z (who can learn) with aid of novel carbon nanomaterials and alloys, mechas, transformers and Megaman!

Scary, maybe also the T-800!

My votes for 18-meter tall Mazinger Z and Megaman! Who wants to be Dr. Willy?

Now if can help stupid parents with this so called thinker?? If a stupid mom or dad are drunk and trying to drive?? Would this robot slap these useless parents up side the head?? And just in case also bring some Kikkoman too??

Nice idea - but - as most readers with small children know, learning from experience also means making mistakes and inflicting damage to the environment.

My experience is, small children (up to 4 years old) really do increase the entropy (e.g. leaving a mess). I assume this machine during its learning curve might also generate a lot of mess when allowed to run without human supervisor in control.

One step closer to A.I?

It's been here among us for I don't know how long maybe 10 years now. Just talk to her. There was one on my PC five years ago until I removed her as she was talking to much.

is the guy bilingual? does he know about the birds and the bees already? will he suffer from depression or be suicidal?

Robots that learn from experience and can solve problems

I get the feeling SOINN's in the wrong country for that. When's it going to be programmed to do tilt his head and say "Do-shi-o"?

Thinking in Japan - something previously unknown to the nationals.
