Translation: Full steam ahead to Newfoundland! It's almost March. Paul Watson is a multi-millionaire. He wasn't, before he started Sea Shepherd.

Paul Watson, head of the Sea Shepherd conservation group, said in a statement Thursday night that he had ordered the Bob Barker to stop pursuing the Japanese and set a course for Tasmania. He said the ship had a fuel valve problem that could cause an engine breakdown.

I would have thought the captain of the Bob Barker should have enough brains to make such a decision without an order from cult leader Watson.

Full steam ahead to Newfoundland!

Have they committed acts of eco-terrorism in Canada before?

Finally! Now time to go down to the supermarket and get me some whale bacon.

Finally! Now time to go down to the supermarket and get me some whale bacon.

Awesome! Can you make me a BLT?

@ironchef. Be careful, somebody might ram you, throw stuff at you and point lasers at you. LOL

Well done boys. Three weeks with no whales killed down there is great work. otsukeresamadeshita

Three weeks with no whales killed down there is great work

Yet Sea Shepherd had no problem attempting to murder the Japanese researchers.

attempting to murder the Japanese researchers.

hyperbole.

Japanese Coast Guard manning the Shonan Maru had specific orders not to be intimidated hence their aggressive tactics. Silly fools couldn't defend there own ship from a jet ski but better not mention that. Egg on the face for Nippon's finest(not).

0 ( +0 / -0 )

hyperbole.

Wrong. When you use military-grade lasers and biological weapons, you are trying to kill. One of the SS terrorists even boarded a Japanese ship in an attempt to kill the captain.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

You have to admit that laser pointers and rotten butter are hardly weapons of choice for terrorists.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"When you use military-grade lasers and biological weapons, you are trying to kill."

Funniest thing I've heard in some time. 'Military grade lasers'? What... to point out on charts where the target is because they're too busy to use a regular pointer? 'biological weapons'?

Seriously, dude...I thought the Japanese shooting themselves with pepper spray while dressed for Hallowe'en was funny!

Now they can make "Whale Wars" season 3 and make a ton of money.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Can anyone explain to me why the Japanese whalers go to Antarctica to hunt and not in the Arctic which would be much closer and in theory, cheaper?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Finally! Now time to go down to the supermarket and get me some whale bacon.

Only if you get there before Greenpeace Japan steal the lot as "evidence"!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

neverknow2,

Well that's because there is lots of land in the Arctic, which gets in the way of the sea, where whales live. So in the northern hemisphere Japan only bothers to go as far as the North Pacific.

The extra sea in the Antarctic also means there are more whales there too. When commercial whaling resumes that will be the most profitable place to catch them, I reckon.

Finally! Now time to go down to the supermarket and get me some whale bacon.

No need to rush; the 'research' fleet won't be back until mid-March.

Sea Shepherd had no problem attempting to murder the Japanese researchers

Yeah, like trying to disorientate the helicopter pilot with military-grade LRAD, slicing the front off their boat....Oh hang on....

0 ( +0 / -0 )

slicing the front off their boat

Nice try. We all know the SS rammed the Japanese ship.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

MrUSA,

Fortunately the only people who believe what SS say are already certified SS cult club members. No need to let their lies bother you :)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

No more SS obstruction, they will be able to hunt 50 whales per day with 5 vessels for a couple of weeks. Number is going to be at least 500 whales to go.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

How on earth do SS cult club members find their helicopters and boats so close to the Japanese whaling boats all the time? I'm sure that must be entirely Japan's fault!

Moderator: Please do not use expressions like "SS cult club members." They are meaningless, lower the level of discussion and reflect badly on your argument.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

MrUSA, the facts? You mean you came here to give your opinion. Butter is not a weapon.

And how do you suggest the guy who boarded the Japanese ship intended to kill the captain? Nobody reported anything close to what you claim to be "facts."

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Butter is not a weapon.

When you throw poisonous, rancid butter at someone - with an intent to hurt them - that is definitely a weapon.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Did you see the pics of the holes that were blown through the nets by the bazooka type weapon that the SS cult members were using?

Did you see the pics of the holes that were blown through the nets by the bazooka type weapon that the SS cult members were using?

I saw a picture of that in a news article. I hope the SS never uses that deadly weapon against the Japanese researchers or the other fishermen they hate.

In the past 3 years I have noticed the pendulum swinging back away from Watson's cult. It's an interesting turn of events and just shows what the internet can do. That boat of theirs which they rammed into the Japanese whaling ship was an interesting one. Not sure is it has been reported here but she used to be called EARTHRACE. She had the same stupid captain who ran out of money, and took a job with SS. She used to be silver and quite a good looking boat, before Watson decided she needed to look like the Batboat. I would have preferred to have seen her lost in the ice off Newfoundland...

"Terrorists", "cult members", the retoric just keeps getting more emotional, & ridiculous...

Moderator: Exactly. All readers, tone down the rhetoric or some of you will be leaving us.

Ohh by the way did you see the J-whalers deliberately ram & sink a civillian vessel, endangering its crew, & hitting them with water cannons & LRAD's the whole way through?

But it was funny when the "ghostbusters" got themselves in the face with pepper spray...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"Ohh by the way did you see the J-whalers deliberately ram & sink a civillian vessel"

No, I did not. Ditto with the "pepper" spray.

Is there even any confirmation that Japan didn't kill any ways during that three weeks, as Watson, a man who publicly advocates lying if it sounds good, claims?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

BondiBlue, would you agree that deliberately sinking vessels is a terrible thing? And that it can be very damaging to the marine environment, if all the toxics aren't very painstakingly removed in advance?

If so, please compare numbers of vessels sunk by Japanese Whalers vs. SeaShepherd. (And for myself, I mainly blame SS for the EarthRace sinking as well.)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Success must equal a moron ramming his bat-boat into a larger craft resulting in a scuttled mess at the bottom of the ocean...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"I think you are just trying to say...."

Please don't think for me....it's Friday,go out and have a beer and discuss it with all your friends, relax maybe ?

According to the SS website, the Steve Irwin will be in the Mediterranean to "oppose Bluefin tuna poachers".

What's wrong with poaching tuna? Some people like it grilled, some like it fried, and some like it poached. Why does the SS oppose this cooking method?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Why does the SS oppose this cooking method?

'Cos you gotta hoike the fish outta the water and kill it first. And all its mates as well.

Moderator: Back on topic please.

Here's an interesting idea, and one more reason why killing whales is Bad.

Dr Andrew Pershing from the University of Maine described whales as the "forests of the ocean"

when whales die [naturally], their bodies sink, so they take that carbon down to the bottom of the ocean. "If they die where it's deep enough, it will be [stored] out of the atmosphere perhaps for hundreds of years."

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/8538033.stm

That might help Mr Hatoyama and his 25% carbon cuts.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

This means Watson needs more doners.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"This means Watson needs more doners" Considering the number of boats he's in the market for, I'd suggest he's already getting them.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I really don't know why the JMSDF has not gone down to escort.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Maybe they can recycle their trash now instead of just throwing it into the sea.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Ha ha, looks like they finally gave up.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I laugh whenever I read about this so-called "whale sanctuary". It's not a sanctuary if whales can be hunted there in accordance with established treaties during a "whaling season".

0 ( +0 / -0 )

That might help Mr Hatoyama and his 25% carbon cuts.

lol, only if you're one of the few left who believe the climate scam.

More on topic. Is good to see SS pack it in and go home. Now if they could do this every year say, about 3 or 4 weeks earlier, that would be great.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

dontpanic: "This means Watson needs more doners" Considering the number of boats he's in the market for, I'd suggest he's already getting them.

No I meant he need MORE doners otherwise he wouldn't quit the whale war.

The Sea Shepard is doing it's job to protect where there is no protection. Heroes who go about serving the environment are fulfilling a larger calling than those who foul and scorch.

The SS are actually hurting the environment with their criminal actions.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

KingRat - "No I meant he need MORE doners otherwise he wouldn't quit the whale war."

I think youll find he's getting them. Besides, the number of doners to Sea Shepherd wont have an impact on a mechanical fault on his ship.

Come next season when the IWC has failed to agree to end the 'research' whaling cover up I hope Sea Shepherd will be back and again sticking to the whalers like s*#t to a blanket.

In the meantime congratulations to Sea Shepherd for preventing foul cruelty and raising the anti whaling lobbys media profile for as long as they have.

No they're not.
