ahhh...leave him alone...he looks like he's having a good time

Should this not be in the "entertainment" section?

I hope he makes it to freedom, and a nice place to live, not that horrible concrete enclosure he was stuck in. Brave little guy!

I wonder how many people the search party consists of, and if they actually know how to catch a runaway penguin.

How long before he starts to starve...many species do not eat a wide array of food? Do they have any info on that?

After seeing a shark in front of Yoyogi park it wouldn't surprise me to see a penguin walking around.

Looks like he is giving the photographer the bird.

Not waving, but drowning (or at least signaling for help) ? I like to think the little fella made a run for it, going ahead of the others to see if it could be done. But how will he report back to the other inmates? A note hidden in a fish? And how did they choose who would go? How do penguins play junken?

This is going to make a great Disney Pixar movie one day. What a wonderful, heartwarming story it is!

Everyone knows that when a penguin is on the loose in a big metropolis, the only one who can save us is Batman.

Cue the Benny Hill music.

I'm rooting for the penguin to get away and have a happy life, but with chemicals what they are likely to be at in Tokyo Bay and what not, it might be more dangerous in the open that back at the zoo. So, here's hoping the penguin finds a safe, clean, and quiet place to romp around and catch fish.

notasap:

The "wide array of food" for penguins consists of.... fish.

And there is plenty of that in Tokyo Bay. Granted, probably containing more mercury than you´d wish, but humans eat Edowan sushi too, so pengi would be doing just fine, food-wise.

Hurry... bring that spotlight and call Batman!

If he can dodge the pollution and radiation then he might make it to the open sea?

Keepers believe the 60-centimeter bird may have been so startled by something that it was able to get over a rock twice its size and make a bolt for freedom.

So technically any of the birds could get out at any time?

Have you seen this Chicken?

(Wallace & Gromit reference)

i'm rooting for the penguin too.

The headline threw me for a loop..........whales, now penguins (or Pittsburgh hockey players).!

Can he survive in the nature?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

a 60 cm flightless bird that prefers sea to land and likes a lot of fish... is loose! This is hilariously written like it's a menace to Tokyo. It used to be Godzilla. Now its a penguin. How Japan has fallen.

Not a sudden threat to the new Sky Tree? Guards!

efisher:

" Can he survive in the nature? "

He can´t have offspring, unless his girlfriend escapes too, if that is what you mean. Otherwise, yes sure.

This is like the cow in Germany that was headed for the slaughterhouse and escaped. It had people all over the world rooting for it. (And was eventially caught and got a reprieve from death.)

Oooohhhh no! There goes Tokyo. Oh no a PENGUIN! # ;-)

But seriously, the little guy/gal may have his/her freedom, but at the cost of being forever lonely. Never again to meet up with another one of his/her kind. It's kind of sad, in a way.

"penguin at large"

Ha ha ha, too funny!

Hope Greenpeace rescues it and takes him to safe waters.

Now that it is free will it be given Japanese citizenship like Wan-Chan the wayward seal?

If anything, it will be the best dressed bar hopper in Tokyo!

Bartender: What will it be sir?

Fugitive Penguin: The usual, shaken not stirred

What is its name? Alexander? (Alexander von Humboldt) Swim Alexander, swim!

The bird is unlikely to survive for too long (here's hoping I'm wrong). I'm worried a dog will maul it or it will get hit by a car, etc.

Hope Greenpeace rescues it and takes him to safe waters.

If it was not raised in the wild, it might be an easy target for predators. I love nature but I think some greenies forget about how the food chain works. Not everything that walks, slithers, flies or swims is cute and cuddly.

As bad as it may be, the zoo is the safest place for it now.

Freedom has a price to pay for. Lonely without girlfriend, danger and predators everywhere.
