00:54AM January 6, 2018, just about 25 minutes ago, earthquake M4.8 underneath (80-km depth) between FUNABASHI Station and HIGASHI-FUNABASHI station of the Sobu Line occurred. No Alert even though it shook a little bit stronger in Funabashi-Narashino Area.

So, that makes it 3 quakes in the space of a week or 2.. I read somewhere that 2018 was bringing with it the likelyhood of more quakes... looks like they were right.

4.8 in Central Tokyo... no alarm went off from AU phones...

Just had a shindo-4 quake in Tokyo at 12:56am. My girlfriend's phone alert went off a minute after the quake. Perfect!

Speed - Better safe than sorry.

I completely disagree with this statement. I used to receive these alerts regularly and out of 10 alerts only one was before an actual earthquake and another came during the earthquake. The other eight didn't result in an earthquake at all. People will stop paying attention to them and become complacent, which is very dangerous. I'm in favor of an early warning system, but only if it is reliable. And, there was no warning for the mega quake and tsunami that hit in 2011. The system is not reliable, which makes it dangerous.

It was my first experience of the warning system. I opened the windows and doors and then waited. Nothing came. It was still a good practise for me. Made me realise I haven't even got a table to get under too.

What you need is a Morrison shelter, doubles as a table and a bed if needed!

Good to remind the denizens of Tokyo that despite the current NK hysteria, you are far more likely to be killed or injured by a mega quake than a NK missile...

Just about jumped out of my skin, but despite the noise - no panic. Everyone was rattled but calm - I was reaching under the desk toward my hardhat - but didn't pull it off the hook. Good to know the systems work.

The simultaneous quakes on opposite sides of the Fossa Magna is a bit unnerving.
