Japan's local governments are planning something special for those who register their marriage on the first day of the new era, including offering gifts and commemorative photos, as they expect a spike in the number of couples tying the knot on May 1.

OMG, municipal offices opening up on a national holiday! It's gotta be snowing in hell!

Got an email from one of my banks that it will be closed for the 10 days. I expect all the banks will be closed. Could be a problem with the ATM's too?

Y2K type problems in 2019? only in Japan hahaha

How do we register marraiges if the 区役所 are closed for the holiday..?

"The Komae city office expects to receive around 30 to 40 registration requests for marriage on May 1, as high as Nov. 11, 2011, when many couples appreciated the date containing six ones."

Is there something special about six ones that relates to marriage? Did they also ask to sign at 11:11:11 a.m., because then it would be twelve, which is due more appreciation than six?

I'm sure the local civil servants will be happy about having to work on an official government holiday so the cities can be mentioned in the news.

Let's hope marriages under the Reiwa era will be one of "beautiful harmony".
