Fisherman in Okinawa....

The Joint Typhoon warning center really blew this one.

I took a look at that youtube link. Honestly, I will never understand people. Heavy winds, waves crashing against the rocky shore and this guy decides to get closer and closer to the water for fishing. O.o

Went sailing after a typhoon once. 6-8 metre waves made it a lot more exciting than Splash Mountain. We had the mainsail reefed down to about the size of a tablecloth.

why you say that Yuri?

How many injuries were caused that could have been avoided? Fish in a typhoon? Darwin award.

Japan is the only place I know of where people decide to go fishing, climbing a rooftop and riding motorcycles and bicycles in the middle of strong storm.

This headline makes it seem like the storm was driving a car and just committed a hit and run..

I too saw the video, very sad and I feel for the family of the man..... From what I saw his back was to the sea and that is why we say "Never turn your back to the ocean".

Actually, according to a news article I read, he had a mainland last name. So he probably was fairly new to the island and was not aware of how to act near the ocean after/during a typhoon. Sucks, but you reap what you sow.
One look at the waves off Zanpa that day would have keep me far, far away from the rocks.

And no news on the oncoming typhoon and tropical cyclone coming to south japan? wow.

??? You think people haven't been moving for years or something? I know plenty of "Okinawan" folks in Honshu who have been here for generations.

I've seen people attempting to surf and swim during hurricanes in America, just saying..

Mainland last name + being that close to the rocks after a typhoon leads me to believe he was fairly new. Just about any local or anyone who has lived on Okinawa for "years" would have known better, that's all I'm saying.
The video for reference, not a smart idea.
