Went to chigasaki beach last week and I was appalled by the amount of plastic and trash hanging around in and out of the water. It's usually a nice beach, I guess the storm washed everything over. Even just while sitting on the beach it stunk!

On the other hand, I was very happy to see a group of foreigners picking up trash and collecting it in a bag. One Japanese guy even came out after a swim and emptied his pockets of trash he collected!

While I was sitting there wondering if there will be any clean beaches left on earth, they were cleaning one for us!

I'd like to wish him good luck next time. I can't swim more than 10 minutes myself, so I do have a lot of respect for such people...

Isn't there another guy swimming long distances to bring about awareness about plastic pollution? Seem him often on Sky News.

Plastic really does pose a serious problem. I see Japan doing sweet FA.

Most of us do not need plastic straws to drink.

It's neither good nor bad idea, it's naturally normal to me, never to risk life to hell swimming!

This is stupid. Don't throw away your life in a crazy endeavour like this.

Maybe somebody's trying to tell you something

At the rate he was going it would have taken him 20 months to cross the Pacific.

400 km a month is "only" about 13 km a day. Perhaps he has problems with his health.
