Under the quasi-state of emergency, dining establishments not serving liquor are requested to close at 8 p.m.

Wasn't that supposed to be State of Emergency ?

State of emergency : restaurants and bars must close at 8:00 and not serve alcohol, whole prefecture.

Quasi state of emergency : restaurants and bars must close at 8:00, stop serving alcohol at 7:00 + some specific depending of the city : no party higher than 2, follow a check list of anticovid measures (partition, CO2 counter, ...) and possibly even not serving alcohol (to avoid interprefectoral travel for example).

So if quasi state of emergency is like state of emergency how is state of emergency evolving ?

These things are always announced right before vacations. Can't have people enjoying themselves too much!

And if you do get the COVID, your chances are overwhelmingly excellent that you will not only survive it, but not even experience severe symptoms. Your chances of dying of it are only slightly higher than being mauled to death in the middle of Shinjuku by a one-eyed short-tailed three-legged cheetah.

The usual misinformation, this is pathetic.

This never-ending SOE used to get me down but I just don't care about these so-called "restrictions" anymore. Leaving this island in approximately in 76 days...but who's counting?

ROFL (if this whole virus had a funny side)

And people like to keep saying left-wing governments are incompetent!!

Japanese "state of emergency" = best wishes/hopes and prayers

And still no improvements or changes.

I’m guessing this will be the norm through the end of the year and continue on in 2022 with no end in sight?

Good job, as usual, Suga and the boys.

When I explain the strict measures taken in Japan to my friends in Europe, Asia or North America, they are just laughing : how can Japan hope to stop the spread by just asking people to behave cautiously, closing restaurants after 8pm and not allowing alcohol in restaurants. My friends ask me if I am joking.  Unfortunately no.

What about the thousand or so restaurants, and rightfully so, staying open and serving alcohol?

Pointless, waste of money and with Obon here and being in the midst of summer, how is this gonna stop the spread of the virus?

Please enlighten me as I might be too stupid to see how this will work.

Tougher measures against the coronavirus pandemic were introduced Sunday in eight prefectures newly placed under a quasi-state of emergency, with restaurant operators requested to cut opening hours and suspend serving alcohol.

Beside that? Everything will be just as no emergency.
