This is on the same Tokai fault line that hit Wakayama today. Be prepared if you live in Tokyo and avoid Tokyo Olympics. You can research the internet about preparation. If you are prepared, you can survive. Stay safe friends.

Why avoid the olympics?

i doubt very much that Iwate and Wakayama are affected by the same fault line. Iwate is affected by the Pacific plate, whereas Wakayama is probably affected by the much more frightening Nankai trough.

Go to the Tokyo Olympics people. The chances of a big one hitting at the exact same time is very minimal.

The Tōkai earthquakes are major earthquakes that have occurred regularly with a return period of 100 to 150 years in the Tōkai region of Japan. The Tōkai segment has been struck by earthquakes in 1498, 1605, 1707 and 1854.

not against japan wasting money on olympics, but it is totally tokyo centric and won't benefit anyone else in japan. i think we should use existing stadiums in tokyo and osaka etc. thinking outside the box, when the big one happens, we can still hold the olympics with world support.

Japan Median Tectonic Line (中央構造線 Chūō Kōzō Sen), also Median Tectonic Line (MTL), is Japan's longest faultsystem.[1][2] The MTL begins near Ibaraki Prefecture, where it connects with the Itoigawa-Shizuoka Tectonic Line (ISTL) and the Fossa Magna. It runs parallel to Japan's volcanic arc, passing through central Honshū to near Nagoya, through Mikawa Bay, then through the Inland Sea from the Kii Channel and Naruto Strait to Shikoku along the Sadamisaki Peninsula and the Bungo Channel and Hōyo Strait to Kyūshū

The problem with having the Olympics in Hokkaido is the lack of infrastructure to handle the large number of traffic by air (airport capacity and lack of hotel rooms), the logistics to move things from mainland Japan to Hokkaido, facilities, etc.

Goodlucktoyou - The 2011 earthquake was so large that any subsequent earthquakes in the area, even ones as large as this morning, are usually described as aftershocks by the JMA. I think the Wakayama and Iwate earthquakes happening close together was coincidental.
