If the island mentioned in this article is in "southern Japan," then Guam is in the "western United States."

Miyakojima is located right in the middle of Okinawa Prefecture, between Ishigaki and the main island. Of course it's in southern Japan.

Guam may be owned by the US, but it is not in any state, western or otherwise.

Miyakojima is a great place for a holiday. Glad to hear there's no damage or injury, I hope it stays that way.
