Supermarket worker injured after car drives into store in Tochigi

A supermarket employee was injured after a car plowed through the entrance of a supermarket in Yaita City, Tochigi Prefecture, on Friday.

Police said the incident occurred at around 12:50 p.m. The car, driven by an 81-year-old man, crashed through the glass doors, Fuji TV reported. About 20 customers were in the store at the time, but only the employee, a man in his 40s, sustained injuries, police said.

The driver was quoted by police as saying he was about to park his car when he mistakenly pressed the accelerator instead of the brake.

Again! And, again! This scenario repeats itself so regularly they can just keep this article on file and change the names and places.

Not again! This time the 81-year-old man, crashed through the glass doors of the supermarket. But the male employee has escaped with only injuries. Um... This could have been a lot worse.

Just a matter of time before the next one. You can practically cut and paste these stories as the details are usually the same: he/she mistakenly pressed the accelerator instead of the brake.

The problem is that an 81-year-old doesn't have the reaction time to correct his mistake (i.e. release the accellerator). By the time the old duffer had worked out what was going on, he would have been half way through the shop.

Time to hang up your driving gloves, granddad.

No driving at all after 65. When you are retired you have time to walk.

Greater number of people are killed by driver under 25 years than those over 65 years.

Yep, walking does a lot of good trying to get somewhere in the middle of nowhere.

Are there any recorded cases of cars being driven into buildings that don't involve old people mistaking the brake and the accelerator?
