Japanese cuisine is amiable to plant substitutions because it was originally a mostly plant based diet. To improve health outcomes reduction in meat consumption will be needed

Bacon is carcinogenic, so yeah. Chemicals created when making bacon cause cancer based on a decade of research. Why Japan wants USA diseases I dont know
Japan has some flavourful potatoes, sweet potatoes, yams, etc. They don't contain diseases, or human causing ones. Japanese cuisine is amiable to plant substitutions

"Feeding of under- or uncooked garbage containing pork meat or by-products to pigs is another route of transmission." "Over 70% of pigs in the UK are reared under intensive conditions, being closely confined indoors for their entire lives." "Pigs become bored and aggressive in confined spaces which means teeth clipping and tail docking are required to reduce excessive fighting and biting." ever been to a pig farm here in Japan. don't take your kids.

kill, not cull. They killed them. Over ten thousand animals are being killed because they had been kept in such close and unhealthy conditions that disease was spreading.

Should I stop eating bacon?

Smart move. The last thing the world needs is a disease affecting all the pigs. It should be isolated to where it starts up this time, in this case Gifu Prefecture, Japan and not be allowed to go beyond that. Farmers all over the world don't need this hassle.

Jumped the gun lifting the restrictions, disease still there, not eradicated, someone get paid off to lift them early? Need to implement a comprehensive slaughter and burn policy, stop all movement in the area until the outbreak is thoroughly eradicated.
Rest of the world needs to ban import of Japanese pork to stop its spread.

This has an overview of swine fever. It’s not contagious to humans, but is highly contagious amongst swine and is fatal. If your farm gets classic swine fever it devastates you financially.
