Taiwan was returned to the Republic of China, the legal heir to the Qing Dynasty, from which Japan got Taiwan in 1895. It was nevef retuned to the Peoples Republic of China which did not even exist unitl 4 years after WWII ended.

Is the International Monetary Fund a good enough source, sensei? 5%

Some people get all their information from the Global,Times, a CCP mouthpiece. Chinas tanking real estate market and consumer spending collapse is well known to anyone who actually follows business news instead of just spreading wumao propaganda daily.

For those with limited intellectial aptitude. free peace loving countries refer to all the nations who stand against territorial expansion byunilateral force and threat. That would include not just all the Asian and Pacific nations,at odds with China but every country on the planet outside the autocratic ones. Next time just google it.

Good to see Independent Taiwan working closely with allies.

Why not? Taiwan is independent from mainland China so why can't they do this? Since they're independent they have every right to defend themselves and work with allied nations.

So when is the war starting? There is no war.

There won't be any "boa constricting" either as that is an act of war.

I only wish that once and for all US and other nations just recognize Taiwan as what it should be, an independet country.....

Keep dreaming. It’s not going to happen because it’ll mean going through war and that is not happening.

People don’t understand how the status quo is better than war. How in anyway is worn torn Ukraine better than the current status in the Taiwan Straights?

They have every right to remain independent. Even the CCP itself conducts trade with Taiwan.

This. Actually you’ve got it. The CPC conducts trade with Taiwan because the Chinese, Taiwanese, Shanghainese Hong Kongers are all slaves to money.

China wants to continue to trade with Taiwan. Taiwanese businessmen continue to invest in mainland. The CPC itself conducts trade with Taiwan. Good point.

What you’ve got wrong is the part about China wanting to invade Taiwan.

So when is the war starting? There is no war.

Yes, I know that is not as easy as it sounds, and there are many complications to do so... but still... I dream to see the opening of Embassies of ROC everywhere.

Always important to reflect Taiwan is a separatist region lacking the UN-recognition associated with an independent, sovereign state.

There's the line we look for, to which we say matters not at all and more UN recognition than Russia's disgraces.

Without me researching this....who were the people on Taiwan when the Nationalist Army arrived and why was an authoritarian rule imposed on those people.?

Post WW2, Japan surrenders, Taiwan is returned to China,

The Post WWII China was the Republic of China. Taiwan continues to be ruled by that nation after civil conflict split China in two. Nothing has changed. CCP split China because it didnt take Taiwan.

Now after seventy five years China expects Taiwan to surrender. Why on earth should they? Those living there have no desire to live under an autocratic leadership, and they have never been ruled by the CCP. They have every right to remain independant. Even the CCP itself conducts trade with Taiwan.

If those on the mainland truly miss being unified with those in Taiwan then the fastest way to do that would be to disolve the CCP and return the mainland to ROC control. No bloodshed and no concerns for the international community. Of course that cant happen because autocrats dont like to give up control.

Did the Nationalists simply invade and take over by force ?

The Chinese economy is doing just fine. Check out some of the happy YT bloggers who are enjoying their time in a bustling modern China with amazing historical roots.

Roots that are pre-CCP rule and have nothing to do with the repressive ruling regime.

Always important to reflect Taiwan is a separatist region lacking the UN-recognition associated with an independent, sovereign state.

Always important to reflect that ROC existed before the CCP rebellion which separated the mainland from ROC rule, and that the separatist region is the mainland. Also that UN recognition is not needed for a state to be legitimate, independant and sovereign. Twelve UN member states officially recognize Taiwan as an independant sovereign nation.

These joint drills are an affront to public decency.

These drills in support of rescues of those in danger and distress are supporting public decency to act in saving lives.

Moreover, they are hypocritical for Washington and Tokyo when one considers their embrace of another country trying to reclaim breakaway regions by force.

Complete lack of consistency again.

Once again, the breakaway region was the mainland and CCP forces. CCP is the only hypocritical entity attempting to turn the truth upside down.

BTW Ossan above.../who. and where are these "peace loving nations who adhere to a rules based world order. " ?

I cant think of any.

I think "might is right " determines 99% of geo political maneuverings

The USCG has also conducted joint exercises with the Philippine Coast Guard.

Chinas aggressive and belligerent attempts to unilaterally expand its control over others territory is an affront to the whole world and all peace loving nations who adhere to a rules based world order.

Chinas economy is headed south and Nationalism is used to draw the attention of the populace. As clearly evidenced by many of these posters here.

Probably related to the "Miracle Chinese Floaty Lady " recently rescued in the mid Pacific.

Japan is afraid of China and wouldn't be able to do that even in their own waters.
