I don't think it has to be directed against the PRC, but I think it can be part of a collective security in the region, to include not only Taiwan and Japan, but also Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines (and) Vietnam," he said.

At the risk of pissing off China in the process? Is this dude daft or what? There is no way China is going to view it as anything other than a threat to them!

You can’t live in fear of China.

You cant run from bullies if they are always waiting for you.

But for Japan’s sake, this should only be done maybe if the US, Japan, and others like Australia and India show more resolve. You don’t want to start a war, but that being said, China should not be threatening people with war for having ties and relations. That’s the very definition of wrong.

China should refrain from absorbing Taiwan. Such an act would risk infecting China with democratic ideas, for which there would be hell to pay. Blood would run in the streets, just like the good old days of the Taipings and Boxers.

You want to appease China? Are you a Man or mouse?Stand up for your nation! Japan and USA have strong leaders who will NEVER seek to appease PRC. I really like the idea of huge joint exercises between the democratic nations of USA, Japan and Taiwan, especially in South China Sea. Why wont the UN finally recognize Taiwan as a fully independent Nation? Then Japan and Taiwan will have full diplomatic relations, and collaboration. Taiwanese people love Japan.

I agree that an alliance of democratic nations that includes Taiwan will be called a "threat" by China. But we all know that it isn't a threat at all, but a huge obstacle to China's aspirations of territorial expansion and the military domination of Taiwan.

I'd say Japan & Taiwan hurry up. Make sure you have big brother from across the Pacific and a few others with you.

Way to increase tension in the area and increase the risk of an incident leading to escalation of hostilities!

"Japan also has the intention to cooperate with Taiwan," Ohara said.

WELL DONE. The minute we stop standing up for freedom and democracy, and the idea of the sovereign state and individual , is the minute our fates are sealed and we are doomed. Bullies must not prevail.

In the words of the Dude. "This aggression will not stand man."

Why? To enter WWW 3 with China, think we experienced enough..

Let's wait until tessions between all these countries are at their highest before showing any intrest in joint military relations. The timing couldn't be worse, unless your real agenda is to fan the flames of war.

Any soft approach until now has only emboldened China and made them more belligerent. Stand up to them now.

James Stavridis and Dennis Blair must be growing long noses by now.

Their statements suggesting TW and JPN cooperating more on defense makes the two of them the Pinocchio of the AKB 48 era!

Both are really shooting their own pumpkins and sounds just like the many scam and fraud maestros in Watergate.

These duo should know that the Shintaro Ishiharas of the world would quiz them as to why the sneaky USA broke diplomatic relations with their so-called 'ALLY' ROC-TW and forced Nippon to do the same in favor of China.

Please don't insult the intelligence of the Taiwanese and Japanese peoples .

The era of sneaky American propaganda monopoly is long gone.

If both are sincere then they should twist the arm of Donald and let him re-establish full diplomatic ties with TW-ROC stat!

Otherwise both are just playing with words and ating them too!

Please don't make the Indo-Pacific your fools galore!
