Now, J-gov must understand that they shouldn't complain about Taliban throwing acid on little girls for the crime of going to school, because that would be being insensitive to cultural differences and customary practices.

Or how did Olympus/UFJ/Okada phrased it again?

During our own dark ages, those that subverted Christianity used illiteracy of Latin to maintain the Priests as the sole conduit of God's Word and today Islam is going through the same crisis. When only the Mullah can read the holy texts, he is empowered to preach only hate. When he preaches that sins should be committed, when he endorses the cardinal sin of suicide to terrorize by the murder of children, he is no holy man. He is a purveyor of Satan's ilk.

They and other Afghans were in Japan to discuss what steps need to be taken to build peace and bring reconciliation in the war-torn nation

Eh... Isn't that obvious? Taliban read and learn.......

1 - Start by ditching the stone age and barbaric beliefs system.

2 - Stop acting in such an selfish, cruel and oppressive totalitarian manner.

3 - Next start to treat all people (Men, women and children) with respect and equal rights.

4 - Promote freedom of speech to all.

5 - Make plans for a democratic one-person, one-vote system (monitored by international agencies.

6 - Stop producing and selling drugs.

7 - Close the border with Pakistan (to stop terrorists from coming and going as they see fit)...

Those are 7 little steps which will definitely put Afghanistan on the right path.... BUT....... Never going to happen.

Talibans being famous for their peace and goodwill to all.

" and it will only adversely affect peace"

I wonder what that means?

1 ( +2 / -1 )

the left, grown bored of homegrown or western terrorists and their demented revolutionary stalinism or maoism, seek "dialogue" with ever more dangerous sociopaths and barbarians , the same way that certain types of middle and upper class women strike up correspondence with and throw themselves at mass murderers or rapists in first world jails.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

How come this type of person is even allowed to enter Japan, and how could the word taliban and peace even be in the same sentence?

The taliban have been here for years I used to see them at the car auctions in saitama all the time.

They should not be allowed to travel outside of their stone age countries borders let alone enter japan.

Of course those Afghans who are non-Taliban would never support or condone such a thing. At least that is what the MSM wants you to think.

Give me a break. They are all Afghanis, and they are a pretty wild and crazy bunch. Taking sides in this is about as stupid as it ever was. In 20 years the Taliban will be our bestest buddies, all sins forgiven, and the Afghani government will be the evil ones, and it will all be due to some political shift and nothing more.

But a sucker is born every minute, so I am sure the masses will believe it all, just as they believe it now.

When only the Mullah can read the holy texts,

The trouble with the new holy text called the MSM is that its rewritten every day and the people are illiterate to what is written between the lines and also very, very forgetful.

A clear example of contradictio in terminis.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

A Taliban in Japan, eh? He must be aghast at all the short pants and skirts on the women here.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Oh, boy. Isn't TALIBAN and PEACE the same contradiction it terms as TEPCO'S EXPERTISE??

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

In a rare joint appearance, Din Muhammad, a member of the Taliban’s political council, was invited by the private Doshisha University to a “peace-building” forum

What I have seen in the past is that when a high level foreign official comes to Japan, as part of the PR they normally take them to a major shirne or temple to show off some of the ancient culture of Japan. I wonder did the University do this? Probably not, since the Taliban member would have found it an affront to his religion. Remember, they destroyed the ancient stone carved Buddahs in Afg a few year back, so I imagine that taking him to Kamekura would have probably made this guy go ballistic.

Be careful Japan into letting these types in. They like you (or so they say) because they know Japan will not stand up for itself, and will run at the first sign of trouble.

Oh, boy. Isn't TALIBAN and PEACE the same contradiction it terms as TEPCO'S EXPERTISE??

How is it possible for anyone to thumb me down on this comment. I must have a JT Stalker who doesn't like me. What I said was true. Both words don't go together.

Taliban......................................................Peace Tepco........................................................Expertise

These things don't go together at all.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

The University should treat Mr. Muhammad to dinner at a nice unlicensed fugu restaurant.

Taliban......................................................Peace

Tepco........................................................Expertise

Really, don't get it?

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

For all the disparaging of the Taliban, those are tenacious and bold.

They stood up to the Soviet Union and now they're standing up to the full might of NATO.

Looks like they're winning too.

Who knows, maybe God is on their side.

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

However did he clear his acid through customs?

Maybe it's you that don't get it. Ever hear of trying to stay on topic before?

Its funny. Before 9/11 people were willing to credit the Taliban with reduction of crime in Afghanistan, cracking down on the opium trade, and bringing stability and PEACE to the nation even if we did not like some of their ideals.

Then we went to war with them and its like some of you had propaganda posters etched in your minds and forgot all about the pre-911 days. Yeah, its true that they harbored al-Qaida, but they did not attack us or anyone for a while before WE attacked THEM. If anyone should be suspicious of peace overtures, its the Taliban.

No, I don't like the Taliban. I would rather have the opium trade flourish. But stop commenting like government programmed chimpanzees. I am sure the Taliban would like to go back to the days of relative peace so they can freely beat women on the street again and just close down the girl's schools again so they don't have to throw acid (as if the Taliban is the only kind of Muslim or other that ever pulled that trick!). Wake up!

Yes, quite. I remember people talking about nominating them for the Nobel Peace Prize.

its the Taliban.

Yes, because they have been so peaceful all these years, especially to their own people.

But stop commenting like government programmed chimpanzees.

Ahhh, what a refreshing perspective. Thank you for sharing. How did you avoid your "programming"?

Like the name this time anyway. I guess when you've had something like a hundred tries, you are bound to think of an interesting one eventually.

It's sad that at first Washington welcomed the Taliban, but that is before anybody truly knew what those men were, a group of Pashtuns from Kandahar who had lived in their tribal ways since the dawn of their time, and over that time, while the rest of the world changed, living in their kolba or caves, they did not.

It's a shame the world didn't listen to Ahmed Shah Massoud when he tried warning the EU about upcoming dangers of what the Taliban are truly like, and it's too bad that he couldnt hold Kabul, being overpowered from Hekmatyar and the Pakistani ISI who supported him. Even though he had Rabbani on his side, their men were outnumbered due to outside influence by Pakistan.

At that same time, the Taliban chased then Massoud ally, Dostum, all the way back to Mazari-e-Sharif, where they then committed, to some extent, ethnic cleansing of the Hazaras who were dominant in the Bamiyan region. This happened multiple times and it was truly on then, and when the Taliban blew up the Bamiyan Buddhas on March 12, 2001 that the world truly understood what they were dealing with: extremist.

The world will be a better place without the Taliban - but I realize that getting rid of them would be like trying to get rid of cockroaches. You kill one, and another comes scurrying by.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Yes, quite. I remember people talking about nominating them for the Nobel Peace Prize.

That sort of flippancy is neither amusing nor helpful. Have you heard of anyone involved with the Northern Alliance nominated? Here is fine example of a Northern Alliance warlord: http://www.rawa.org/gulsha.htm

That is your ally?

Yes, because they have been so peaceful all these years, especially to their own people.

The peace was relative. Afghanistan was more peaceful under the Taliban than it is now.

How did you avoid your "programming"?

The realization that I am surrounded by liars and fools.

Like the name this time anyway.

Does the Taliban have another name?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Oh, yes, and several Afghan soldiers have turned their guns on NATO troops. Afghanistan is a crazy place full of crazy people. That is why I don't take sides with them. The Northern Alliance has been and will continue to disappoint, same if we were allied with the Taliban. There just isn't any winning.

@Yubara - Ah, so one of my thumber downs appears with a comment.

Taliban......................................................Peace Tepco........................................................Expertise

Really, don't get it?

Maybe it's you that don't get it. Ever hear of trying to stay on topic before?

Seriously? Seriously now? Ever hear of having a sense of humor? WOW! You don't see the correlation with another article that appeared in the JT. Both of them were contradictory. Too big a leap for you to understand the word play?

Seriously? The Taliban at a peace conference? I don't think they have heard of the word peace or even want to have peace unless they can everything THEIR WAY.

Let's see. Tepco and it's expertise in nuclear energy. Hmmmm Let's see, we know that doesn't exist either. Ask the people up north who had to flee the reactors.

No, I think, you just don't want to get it. Both stories came out the same day and I loved how they used two words that are now considered opposites. Oxymorons?? No, oh well. Have a great day.

Muhammad’s visit to Japan comes less than a week after Taliban fighters stormed a lakeside hotel near Kabul, killing 18 people in a 12-hour standoff with the security forces.

So, for all those who WISH I stay on topic, I will. Think about the above. Taliban kills 18, most likely completely innocent people, and just ONE WEEK later they attend a PEACE CONFERENCE? The conference should have been cancelled right there. These crazy people are not interested in PEACE A BIT. Now, there is a huge contradiction. Pretty funny also. Funny because if anyone went to that conference to get them to sit down and try to discuss peace must have had their heads in a location where it doesn't belong. What a bunch of nonsense. People who want peace don't go and blow innocent people up on PURPOSE!!!

@Yubara - Just because we debated and were on opposing sides on another issue does not mean you have to take cheap shots like the one earlier. This is an adult conversation we are having. Loosen up and find fault where it really lays instead of letting your irritation cloud your judgement to where you have to just attack for the purpose of just attacking.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@Yubara- Really now?

Maybe it's you that don't get it. Ever hear of trying to stay on topic before?

At least I mentioned the words "Taliban" and "Peace" in my post, which you didn't even mention in yours. So, now who went off topic? I think it was you, my friend. Hey, just because we disagree doesn't mean you have to go and find something to criticize. This is an adult conversation and you know I stay on topic, so ease up, bud!

Now, the Taliban. How can the Taliban even be mentioned in a Peace conference. The Taliban has one wish. And that is to have everyone doing what they want them to do, under their own version of the Koran. When they ran that country, other religious groups were persecuted and women's right were non-existent. I used to think that the PLO and the IRA were bad, but they were not half as bad as the TALIBAN. Blowing up ancient Buddhist statues and stuff like that shows you have no respect for anyone else at all. Therefore there is no need to have them at a peace conference. It is a waste of time.

"Looks like they're winning"

I'd hate to see them losing, lol.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@Neversubmit - Sorry, but your name is fitting. You should never submit such comments. From what I remember, the US helped finance and train them against the Soviets. They didn't do it without help, that's for sure and a big mistake for the US.

"Looks like they're winning"

What a croc! Nobody is winning! Nobody has ever won. It is just pitiful degrees of how low man will sink to control another.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

And over religion and different interpretations of religion of all things. How sad for the innocent people caught up in that.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Recent report says Taliban beheads 17 soldiers. It must be a false accusation against a group seeking peace.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Yes, noriyosan. It MUST be false,
