Teacher accidentally shows porn to students

Sometimes it’s hard work being a teacher, especially when you’re passionate about a subject and your students couldn’t care less. No wonder some teachers find themselves just going through the motions and counting the days until the next school break.

But sometimes, being a little TOO passionate can be even worse than phoning it in. And that goes double when you fail to check your lesson material in advance and wind up sharing a little too much with your students, as one teacher in Japan learned when he tried to show his kids a science video but accidentally gave them a peak at his porn stash instead.

Reports state that the teacher, who is in his mid-40s and works at an unnamed middle school in Yokohama, attempted to show his students a DVD about space on the morning of March 10. Unfortunately for him, the laptop he had connected immediately flashed up a gallery of 16 indecent still images, which were fully visible to the students for roughly 10 seconds.

The teacher in question reportedly apologised to the 38 students and continued with the lesson. As you might expect, though, some of the kids reported the incident to their parents as soon as they got home, and a full investigation was launched into the teacher’s conduct. A spokesperson for the school board stated: “It is deeply regrettable that an incident of this nature occurred as we continue to strive for excellence within our classrooms.”

He shoul have used the AV room.

One a school PC? In some countries that would get you sacked straight away. Then again, not the first time I have heard of something like this. Wasn't there are famous case involving two versions of a "Lassie" movie, one targeted at small children and that catered for more "eclectic" tastes?

Oops! Well that was an easily avoidable mistake.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Did this in a night club where i was DJ/VJing year back, full of customers and friends 20y.o.+thank god but wow was it embarrassing ;o/

This is regrettable or innovative teaching depending the country. In Denmark this would be business as usual.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

i'm willing to bet only the female students complained!

-2 ( +6 / -8 )

C'mon, man - that's SCIENCE! Any good porn combines biology and (impossible) physics. Still, I admire his aplomb: To be able to continue with your job when you know you've already made a possibly career-ending mistake shows guts, as many here might know from experience.

When I was working at a small ekaiwa, my Japanese assistant turned on his laptop to print off some info for a mother who was interested in a demo lesson for her child. The sleeping computer screen woke up to what my assistant must have been doing before I arrived. D'oh!

"Excellency". Sheesh....

Try striving for "excellence" instead.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

The kids must have a good laugh at this teacher ^^

4 ( +5 / -1 )

It was 10 seconds before the teacher realised his mistake, well I guess the students wanted to have a good look before letting it go

Reminds me of a disliked teacher, one day he left his briefcase open on the desk during class. He had 2 copies of Hustler topmost.

Sex-ed was fun as our female teacher was very young and we corrected her on some points. Most likely those kids seen already worse.

In grade 10 or 11 (In Canada), nearing the end of the school year, someone pulled a prank and played an old porn movie on every classroom's TV (and hallway) for like 15-20 seconds. I couldn't pull my eyes away from it ><

And our school is quite big- our graduating class had some 400+ students!

1 ( +2 / -1 )

"accidentally"???? maybe he was trying to gauge reactions?

“It is deeply regrettable that an incident of this nature occurred as we continue to strive for excellence within our classrooms.”

familiar statement that we regularly hear from politicians here.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

All censored anyway. Nothing they can't already see at the local conbini or oyagi newspaper.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

whats wrong? well done combining biology lesson

2 ( +4 / -2 )

"All censored anyway. Nothing they can't already see at the local conbini or oyagi newspaper."

probably said one of the middle school kids.

It would have been even more embarrassing if an actresses was one of the kids' mom!

Probably much milder than the stuff the salaryman sitting on the train next to them was reading publicly.

Honestly this isn't a big deal. The teacher deserves a reprimand and a firm reminder to not store porn on the computer he uses for work, but that's it.

... unless of course it was underage porn, in which case he needs to be arrested, but that's a criminal matter.

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

hahaha this funny

rickyvee - i'm willing to bet only the female students complained!

Form a woman's point of view probably because the thrill only lasted 10 seconds........best not elaborate, JT wont approve.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

I hope he is do well and don`t not lose job at all

Was it edited or unedited?

''Good morning class, today we'll be looking at.....how to procreate in space. There'll be a test next week, so watch carefully.'' He should have bluffed his way out of his faux pas. Then again, maybe not.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

I cant believe this makes the news.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

It was obviously edited cause he'd b arrested/fired already for possession of "real" porn.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Please, people. Remember to keep your home computer and work computer completely separate.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

How's he gonna explain this one to wife and kids? If he aint' single.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Middle School? So the kids complained because it wasn't as hardcore as their used to? It's middle school. They're already having rainbow parties. M is passed around like candy at a convenience store. This is supposed to be shocking? Cmon. Stop it.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Magnet: "All censored anyway. Nothing they can't already see at the local conbini or oyagi newspaper."

What era are you living in? If he were accidentally showing a Japanese porn DVD, then yes. But the images were on his computer, and likely from the internet, which is mostly uncensored. In any case, only SOME parts would have been censored, and even then it would be pretty clear to middle-school students that it's not part of anything that was meant to be seen.

Haha. Don't use the same computer you use at home for anything you're going to show directly from the computer at work -- unless your work involves porn. Even if you don't MEAN to look for porn these days you get so-called 100% hits on something completely unrelated and without a single porn-related word because sites put in every single possible word they can to get hits from search fields.

In any case, I'm sure the guy is the butt of ridicule and bad jokes and likely it's being laughed up by a lot of teachers, but in all seriousness it would be grounds for immediate dismissal in most places.

Middle School? So the kids complained because it wasn't as hardcore as their used to?

Not all kids are raging porn addicts. Some of them would have been 12-13 year old girls.

It's middle school.

In Japan. You seem to be confusing it with middle school in other countries.

They're already having rainbow parties. M is passed around like candy at a convenience store.

You don't sound like you know much about middle school in Japan.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Bah, was hoping it was a video he showed. In any case, since porn is censored in Japan, it should only result in a slap on the wrist.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

guess many learned their lesson... and many went all empathic lol.

One a school PC?

The article doesn't mention who was the owner of the laptop.

I worked for a while part-time at a Best Buy in their Geek Squad department. We routinely had computers for repair up on shelves in the back room running diagnostic routines. We were all working on various computers when one of our female co-workers came around the corner, stopped short, and said, "UMMMMMmmmm...." We looked to where SHE was looking and found that one of the customers computers that was on a diagnostic run had kicked in the slideshow screensaver, which was pictures of the customer and (presumably) his wife/girlfriend performing all sorts of various acts of sex in the nude. Three guys jumping simultaneously to move the mouse was pretty funny.

Don't they sell porn in most of the convenient stores in Japan?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

As an interesting aside, artists will look at the object of art for ten seconds. Most of us only muster about three seconds or so.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Students have replied to teacher's apology by they do not have big boobs like the girls we have seen on Internet. Most of under age boys and girls have some degree of experienced with soft pornography in this Internet age. We are not living in ice age anymore. Students knowing of pornographic images were storage on his Laptop was morally wrong for him as teacher but he is human too. I hope teacher will be careful for not happen in future.

The article doesn't mention who was the owner of the laptop.

Actually, the article is missing a few bits of key information that have been mentioned in the Japanese media. One, the laptop was the teacher's personal laptop. Two, it was a school rule that personal laptops were not to be used for classes, etc. Presumably to avoid exactly what happened in this case. So, the teacher was breaking that rule. Pretty dumb to use a computer with potentially problematic stuff on it. I bet he won't forget in the future.

Indeed. I work in a public school system in the IT department and I get two or three requests every year to let a personal laptop connect to our wireless network or to get hooked up to a projector. Fortunately for us, our school board has a written policy that personal computing equipment is not to be hooked-up to school division-owned equipment.

I bet the complainers were prudish mothers. Fathers probably just laughed it off like I did.

Yes, I believe it was the same policy that was in play here, too.

Oops! Did I do that? (Steve Urkal from the U.S. TV SitCom series "Family Matters".
