The body of a teenager was found on the ground beside an apartment building in a residential area in Kobe on Sunday after he apparently jumped, police said Monday.
A passerby notified police early Sunday morning around 5 a.m. that a young man was lying on the ground beside an apartment building in Suma Ward. The boy was taken to hospital, but was pronounced dead upon arrival. The victim, 16, whose name has been withheld, was a freshman at the private Koyo Gakuin High School, police said.
According to police, there were no traces of a physical assault on his body or on the fifth floor balcony of the apartment where he lived and from where he presumably jumped. A suicide note was not found.
Members of the boy's family, who were still asleep at the time of the incident, said they were not aware of any reason that may have led him to commit suicide. He had no apparent problems either at school or at home, police said.© Compiled from news reports
