The body of a teenager was found on the ground beside an apartment building in a residential area in Kobe on Sunday after he apparently jumped, police said Monday.
A passerby notified police early Sunday morning around 5 a.m. that a young man was lying on the ground beside an apartment building in Suma Ward. The boy was taken to hospital, but was pronounced dead upon arrival. The victim, 16, whose name has been withheld, was a freshman at the private Koyo Gakuin High School, police said.
According to police, there were no traces of a physical assault on his body or on the fifth floor balcony of the apartment where he lived and from where he presumably jumped. A suicide note was not found.
Members of the boy's family, who were still asleep at the time of the incident, said they were not aware of any reason that may have led him to commit suicide. He had no apparent problems either at school or at home, police said.

The older my kids get, the more these reports sadden me.

I just missed getting caught on a train last week. Three times a jumper. I thank this boy for not messing up the trains but feel sorry for his family.

Sad that a kid so young would take their own life... Makes me think that Japan needs an "It gets better" campaign.
At the same time I wonder if it does get better for those who are bullied...as I still see adults that bully coworkers.

Perhaps undiagnosed depression. So sad. There's often times no cause other than being medically ill. A friend of mine did this when I was a kid, it's not easy to understand at all.

Sad end to a kids life. Only another 99 suicides to go, today!

Did they find his shoes on the balcony? If they didn't, then I suspect foul play.
In any case, RIP.

I doubt it - there is sadly enough depression out there among Japan's youth already. Perhaps continual bullying, perhaps no hope for the future, perhaps family dramas? We will never know. In any case, absolutely tragic. Rest in Peace.

Sunday 5.am? A lot of people are still drunk at that time. Could have been watching the dawn from the balcony and leant over too far.... Tragic anyway :(

A lot of grass going around among J high school kids in Kobe.
You have to assume that there could be other things too, the type that might keep you awake at 5 am on a Sunday, and might help you believe you can fly. Someone I once knew went that way.

Something just doesn't seem right. Most kids leave behind some message. Whatever the case, feel bad for the kid...RIP
