Temperatures soared across eastern and western Japan on Tuesday, brought on by a high pressure system, the Japan Meteorological Agency said. In many parts of the nation, the mercury was 10 degrees higher than Monday, with temperatures exceeding 25 degrees in 270 locations throughout the country.
The mercury hit 30.5 degrees in Hita, Oita Prefecture, at 1 p.m., 28 degrees in Fukuoka and Kumamoto, 26 degrees in Nagoya and 25 degrees in Tokyo. Many workers out and about in central Tokyo could be seen carrying their jackets.
The Meteorological Agency said that temperatures will be about 5 degrees lower on Wednesday.

Summer heat is coming. Lets see how long the anti-nuclear activists are happy to live with brownouts and no aircon.

Bring on the sunshine for Golden Week!

Just as many can be seen wearing jackets or coats, and windows on buses remain closed.
Incomprehensible.

Still have snow on the mountains here in Fukui. This is the latest spring I have ever experience in Japan. The Cherry blossoms just started about 1 week ago in town, but just a few minutes drive, I can easily find snow.
@WilliB Agreed!

It's the end of the world.

Isn't that what the nuclear propagandists have been saying last year? The nuclear accident has managed to shut down the entire nuclear plants in Japan, and yet the nuclear proponents are blaming US for THEIR failures.

Summer heat is coming. Lets see how long the anti-nuclear activists are happy to live with brownouts and no aircon. Hahahaha! How many days last year? Open a few window, drink some water and turn off the nasty lights. I don't have AC at home and funny, no blackouts last year here.

I love the weather today!

Take of your tie, unbutton your shirt, open a beer and a couple of windows and let the breeze and the sun shine in.
While your at it, go ahead put your feet up as well, life is good.

WilliB: They can't start using the aircon anywhere yet anyway because the set date is from May 1st. Same with heaters (stoves) -- can't start until December 1st.
Anyway, I didn't think it was all that hot out, but it was really nice weather. I just pray that, unlike usual, people who were complaining about the cold yesterday aren't complaining about the heat tomorrow.

Global Weirding!

Rain, clouds, wind, cool in Okinawa. Nice temperature but definitely umbrella weather.

29? Why is that news?.......
garomakaikishi
it was like 39 degrees in thailand yesterday.
Jan Claudius Weirauch
I don't think they still use mercury to measure the temperature in 2012 as it is toxic and potential harmful to the environment, if the thermometer falls on the floor

Looks like it's shifted halfway around the world. March was the hottest March on record for the Wash D.C. area. Just about the time April kicked-in, things cooled down considerably. Been averaging in the mid-40's this past week. (About 7°C)

'bout time!

Well done Einstein.
Loving the warmth. Dodging my job, getting drunk and the shirt is off. Something for everyone.
iceshoecream
About freaking time if you ask me. Coz I'm sick of this cold weather.
tsukki
I'm loving it! I can finally wear sandals after such a long time.
Serrano
tsukki - You could have been wearing sandals way before now. If your tootsies got cold, you could have just asked someone to warm them up for you!

zichi:
We had "setsuden" last summer, with aircons and escalators and neon lights turned off all over the place.... and that was while large parts of Japanese industry were shut down, and while some nuclear reactors were still online.
This time around, industry is working, power-saving has stopped, and all nukes are turned off. Do you seriously think that recipy works?

The headline "People are Welcoming the Warmer Weather" would be more appropriate.

Sorry. No air conditioning will be available. Not enough electricity for the summer heat. Nuclear plants were turned off.
TSRnow
Here comes heat strokes... I hope we don't get a lot of those news this year. People, please be prepared!!
ka_chan
I remember when people in Japan thought air conditioning was bad for you heath. If AC means nuclear, I guess the old folks were right!

Few people actually believe this but the second coolest spot in all of Japan during the hot summer months is Okinawa, beaten out only by Hokkaido. Okinawa rarely exceeds 32 degrees while mainland Japan cities hover near 38 degrees. It's just that Okinawa stays quite warm for an extended period of time whereas the rest of mainland Japan starts to cool off comfortably around September. So that's why people always think Okinawa is so hot. I've lived here 17 years and find it quite comfortable year round.
