For years many of these entities like TEPCO were checking the boxes on their lists without actually doing the checks, sometimes four or five hundred at a time. Downsizing to one revolving team instead of two or three, and standarding their checklists and pencils will surely save on costs.

Why bother? Why not just start them up, like Abe wants, and let Reality take over? It will be the end of Abe and nuclear power.

I support these joint efforts, not least because TEPCO needs as much oversight as it can get. I'd even support having these reactors taken over and managed by organizations with better safety records.

Brian Wheway - "Isn't that what caused the meltdowns in the first place?" nope, it was a 20-30m hight tsunami wave that smashed in to the reactor plant, engulfing it in sea water.

Wow! You should have taken the blue pill! If the recommended safety upgrades were in place like, waterproofing the electrical system and getting the back up generators off the ground there would have been no meltdowns. The tsunami only created a disaster. It did not cause the meltdowns.

Ah, so TEPCO is looking at ways of cutting cost for safety inspections. Isn't that what caused the meltdowns in the first place? Some things never change! Tell me again how nuclear power is cheap and safe!

Not sure about this. History has shown multiple entities involved in such an important process leads to derision.

Complex layers of bureaucracy which ultimately in a time of crisis cause serious delays.

Then come the repercussions. The endless blaming and IT'S NOT OUR FAULT.

Sounds familiar. Been there, done that.

Don't let it happen again.
