Yep, the clean nuclear energy, and Abe is moving to Fukushima prefecture. How wonderful!!!

It seams That TEPCO is Just one big accident all up... Better to Start drilling and pumping pressurised concrete all around and underneath to stop water leeks then entomb the whole thing.

TEPCO is only reporting to then revise to worst later on, this is a strategy they have been using from the beginning, kind of anesthesia procedure on the target and it does work very well,. Indeed people are ready to accept the unacceptable and even more.

If Tepco is reporting this, it makes me wonder how much they aren't reporting. Watch what you eat and drink.

Oh my god 360,000 ml of tainted water. We are doomed

You really believe that TEPCO is having a leak of 360 liters only ? How can you even think 1 second that you can quantify a leak somehwere with such of precision ? I understand more why TEPCO can continue this BS over and over and why the nuclear pollution is not going to stop, people are so naive here.

In any other normal country, there'd be consequences and protests. But in Japan, there is belief that the wise old government will take care of everything. Or it could be that the Japanese are too busy protesting against Kpop to notice such unimportant issues like nuclear pollution.

@MumbaiRocks! Hmm... good thing you're not a teacher. @Star-viking You mean Reuters not JT... look at the by line.

Which begs the question, why isn't Japanese media reporting this. Did NHK cave to Abe? What about Asahi, or the other papers?

Since the beginning the J-Gov has been negligent in is duty to protect the public and the world for that matter. They should have taken over Fukushima Diaichi since they are paying for it anyway. At some point the government has to act to protect its people. The problem is just going to get worse since the patchwork of improvised fixes will fail and real fix need to be put in place before that happens. The USSR eventually took action at Chernobyl. Will Japan?

I pray japan makes it through one year without a nuclear accident.

nothing but good, clean, safe nuclear energy ! ^_^

Right on - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dEB_Wwe-uBM

Are you really sure??

Sad, and just when we thought it was safe to go back int the water or should that be onsen.

Well... At least they actually bothered to report it this time before someone else reported it for them... I do wonder how long it took them to report it though... How long has this 'new' leak been going on?

Edit: Strontium-90 is in the GROUNDWATER and is GOING UP - 100 times in the past five months, indicating reactor 2 is cracked and leaking, which TEPCO denies. Video here:

That's a bit of a biassed report "despite repeated denials, TEPCO have now admitted that large quantities of Sr-90 have been found in groundwater around the plant".

The discovery of Sr-90 in the groundwater in significant amounts is a pretty new thing.

As for the video going on about the Sr-90 only coming from the reactor cores - so what? You have to assume the Sr-90 found dispersed at low levels in the environment just after the accident came from the reactor cores too - the actual question is did they come from the tops of the reactors, or from cracked or melted sections lower down. Not good work from the BBC.

Is this a copy/paste of the previous half a dozen incidents of contaminated water leaking? It reminds me of an episode of the Simpsons where Bart keeps pushing the buzzer and getting shocked. I guess the bubble wrap and duct tape are not sufficient fixes.

Kind of pathetic. If I give my child a difficult task and watch as he fails repeatedly, at some point I walk up and either do it myself or assist him to get it done. Clearly tepco has outlived its functionality and should be completely and thoroughly dissolved. Sad and pathetic, and more so because their repeated failures are hurting others.

It's a complex situation being handled as best as it can be by a private company. We've read about the workers leaving because of the pay cuts imposed by the government, I'm surprised it's not worse. The govt needs to step in, restore a decent wage to the workers, try and hire back the leavers, and get going on a remediation programme.

Wait but why can't they use their super magical machine which they claimed 2 weeks ago having built and supposed to remove ALL the radioactive particles out of the water but the tritium ? Because it does not exist bro... TEPCO the 24h non-stop deceiving company !

They can't clean the water if they can't find where it is coming from.

hatsoff,

Japantoday reported on the Strontium 90 leak recently, see the link below.

I read on the BBC yesterday that strontium-90 had been detected in the water. Why no mention of it here in the domestic media? Remember when strontium-90 was found on the roof of an apartment building in Yokohama back in 2011?

There is nothing that any one should believe from this mob at the risk of being censered again.

shale oil will be cheaper and safer.

If it obtained by fracking, then there could be a significant price to pay environmentally. Fracking on the cheap? Hmmmm, not exactly a confidence builder!

Is this actually being reported on Japanese TV and newspapers? Is the public even really aware of this?

Yes to both questions.

Time for those butt-holes to wave the white flag.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

What kind of a pathetic, do-less government do we have that allows this kind of horrendous situation to continue?

TEPCO is totally incompetent.

And the Japanese government just lets them get on with it.

They don't care because they can't think further than the next election.

If they really are "sincere, humble and honest," as an LDP spokesman recently announced, they would jump on this situation and handle the hell out of it.

The lack of action on this disaster is going to ensure that it continues into our children's and our children's children's generation.

Abe is even trying to sell Japanese atomic power technology to Europe. He's already made some kind of a deal with Turkey. The money that was budgeted to help the victims has been spent on projects to count turtle eggs and promote Hokkaido cheese and wine. And Abe wants to build more reactors!

In a country sitting on converging tectonic plates, frequent earthquakes and tsunamis!

What do these guys have between their ears?

Cotton wool?

10 ( +10 / -0 )

What is new? I will not even be surprise if they would report waste water leaked into the ocean.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Is this actually being reported on Japanese TV and newspapers? Is the public even really aware of this? It's beyond a joke now - why on Earth haven't they forced the government to deal with it properly since Tepco can't? And is there still the refusal of foreign offers of aid?

The gift that keeps giving?

Japan Today reader is not surprised.
