How can babies test positive... something going on here

-24 ( +4 / -28 )

Japan relies on institutional care for the majority of children who cannot live with their parents for reasons such as abuse and neglect.

Um, and how about because a single mother has fallen ill and cannot take care of her baby?...and family members cannot help due to age or possibly not wanting to catch the Corona...or other issues?

Abuse and neglect are not the only reasons.

Vince Blackさん,

All it takes is one worker who doesn't know or doesn't care about the proper guidelines for cleanliness, e.g. licking their own fingers after each bit of cake or rice is put on a dish or into a young mouth, or pulling down their mask to sneeze or cough into their hand.

One careless person can do a lot of damage. That's how we got here.

How can babies test positive... something going on here

People from all ages have been infected with the virus, including babies, that is not something out of the ordinary, what would be rare is a cluster of small children developing strong symptoms or requiring hospitalization, but that is not the case here.

Current research indicate that quite a lot of small children get the infection, but they are not identified because they are not regularly tested since they show no symptoms.

@Vince

Baby contracts virus through contact with an affected person.

Baby develops symptoms.

Doctor orders test.

Test comes back positive.

This is a serious conundrum for the nation. They have kept operating these and also the non-licensed daycare centres through all this, with babies packed into tiny places and exhausted staff, but if they are smart here the will have to shut the places down. But, in the case of the place in question, if the children are there because they cannot be at home due to abuse, where can they be put?

Please like to know how their condition is as there so far has been no deaths from this virus reported for anyone under 10 years old.

Geez, how can adults test positive! This virus doesnt have an age limit!

I for one can not believe that ANYONE would think otherwise!

That's not true. Unfortunately, there have been a number of deaths. In the news today, a 5 year old daughter of American healthcare workers passed away from the virus.

In Japan? There are reports of children who have died from COVID 19 in other countries.

The daughter of two first responders died this week in the US.

A pregnant woman in London was infected when the various first broke out, and her child was born infected with the virus.

Well they obviously have it wrong..so please how many under the age of 10 have died?

-15 ( +0 / -15 )

I see 3 deaths age 0-17. All with “underlying conditions”. It’s like a contest now for some to tell us no one is safe and every single identity politics is at significant risk.

Yet under 44 years old is less than 5% of all deaths and only 25 deaths total without underlying conditions.

The virus is rampant in institutions all over the world.

There have been suggestions that it's spreading through some medical supplies.

Nursing homes are getting hit big time, in almost all countries.

First statement - true to an extent, although clearly exaggerated.

Second - first I've heard of this. Sounds like a statement designed to spread fear.

Third - probably the closest to reality, although it again is an exaggeration.

In your link, it says 3 young people under 17 died of complications due to the coronavirus.

Like I said earlier, I know for fact that one child under 10 has died.

People do not care infecting others, if you work around children, you sacrifice your personal life, by sheltering in place, and avoiding unnecessary contact

We can only hope that none are permanently effected by this virus. My wife and I both were sick with this virus (untested) but fever cough and loss taste in 2nd week Feb. She was 5 mo pregnant and we worry. Don't think enough experience to know yet. We are both fine but also concern reports this virus had added HIV strains, Will it cause AIDS in future ? None know yet

Nursing Home: "Hi Employees #1-7, you have been found positive of Covid-19. Do us a favor? Can you please stay home? Pretty please?"

Employees #1-7: "We'll do our best, but if it gets too stressful, we can go for a jog, walk, go grab a bite to eat right?"

Certainly seems so since the 0-17 y/o infection rate of the total in the U.S. is less than 5% and something .05% of deaths. Not dissimilar to most of the deaths in the elderly, there has been an underlying health condition.

Nearly half the deaths in Washington State have been in care facilities of one kind or another. The elderly are especially vulnerable as most have some sort of underlying health condition.

Only if you and your wife start sharing needles with junkies and/or go around having a lot of unprotected sex in Thailand. A quick Google search reveals no reports of this.

Not only babies but a fetus will be positive if the mother is infected. This is what the doctor told the husband of the dying pregnant woman.

That comes from a false report, scientists hunting for fame made a completely false analysis and tried to publish it, in reality this virus has nothing absolutely to do with the HIV

Certainly seems so since the 0-17 y/o infection rate of the total in the U.S. is less than 5%

That is the infection rate of tested people, which is something extremely different. To see the infection rate of the general population you need to mass test asymptomatic people which is something that has just begun to be done.

Young people show less symptoms when infected, so they are not as heavily tested. It is perfectly normal to assume that in many places babies and kids got an asymptomatic infection and got cured without anybody actually noticing. In this case the none of the eight children show symptoms of the infection so they would have not been tested if not for the contact with someone that had a positive test.
