To nearly all the commentators here: science illiteracy - I see your loving it...

I would refuse to participate and/or certainly to eat there...

Absurd policy. Just like as feeding people mushrooms from the woods around Chernobyl that would help ease the worring about the radiations... Totally irrational, as thinking and as policy. Despite I understad the needs.

dosimeters. Dosimeters for everyone

And Kengo Kuma, designer of the new national stadium, the showpiece venue for the Games, has said he hopes to use timber from the disaster-hit region.

Well that should save on the lighting bill!

I look forward to the video of the IOC dinner, especially the bit where all the Members whip out their personal Geiger counters and run it over the food!

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

Oooihhhhh! This is controversial!

Anyone with even a bit of brain knows that radiated food is not immediately going to show it's effect!

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Gee what happens if one of the IO Members dies before the Games ? Regardless what the cause, it will give rise to a new batch of Conspiracy Theories....

Goodlucktoyou

Apples are from Aomori. Fukushima, Gumma, ibaraki and Yamagata are also very contaminated according to my research as well. The levels in lwate and Miyaki are mostly in fish, rice, mountain vegetables, tabbacco and milk and beef.

You really need to show us your research then! Aomori is around 400kms from Dai-ichi - how did the contamination get there? And between Yamagata and Aomori is Akita - no contamination there?

And how did the contamination get into Yamagata? The name gives a clue - it is surrounded by and covered with mountains.

Please, share your research.

And as for most of the rest of the commenters on the thread, thank you so much for supporting Tohoku. We all need friends like you!

Japan should not be surprised if those games end up being boycotted.

Hpw can food still be banned over twenty years after the Chernobyl Nuclear Accidemt that was less grave than the Fukushoma Nuclear accident and in Japan all is fine after merely six years.

No one will believe it, regardless how much you in vest in propaganda.

What a honey trap!

Lets see the next games coming up.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Will they tell IOC officials where the food was from before - or after they eat it?

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

I'm sure they will get glowing reviews...

2 ( +7 / -5 )

Dispel fears by force-feeding guests????!!!!! Do they not have a clue???!!!

I still remember when Shizuoka authorities kept quiet about contaminated green tea exported to France. Unfortunately for them, the French checked the stuff, disposed of them, and the Japanese authorities were labelled as liars.

They should make this an international news story and start laughing about it, as they did Abe falling in the bunker while golfing with Trump. That would get the LDP shut up right quick except for the "we were misunderstood!" and "of COURSE we were not going to serve it to them!" Or, the IOC can just say "no" and that they'll take their business elsewhere besides Tokyo.

1 dinner vs daily consumption for a lifetime.

One dinner won't 'dispel fears over food from the region'.

Airport security should be prepared for suitcases full of sandwiches.

Omotenashi.

Tokyo 2020 to feed IOC officials food from disaster-hit region

Which means that the Japanese delegation will be served food from somewhere else, all in the name of safety!

Right after the disaster -- the worst nuclear accident since Chernobyl in 1986

Let's get this right for once, the worst nuclear disaster in history! As authors here commonly do, they have this inner need to deflect that Japan could be the "worst" or have the "worst" of anything!

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

Irradiated Olympic Committee.

1 ( +6 / -5 )

They’re giving it to the IOC members because they can’t Sell it? Are they going to tell the IOC, “This is from a nuclear radiated farm up north that we’re trying to revitalize. Bon Appetite” or are they going to say, “Here. Have some delicious Japanese food.” I’m betting on the latter.

3 ( +7 / -4 )

@Goodluck, well, I wouldn’t want Strontium-90, for one, at any level sat radiating its energy sat in my or my children's bone marrow. As others have said, anyone should be given a choice about that which they consume.

You know, this whole scenario reminds me of that old simpsons episodr where mr. Burns took a bite from that mutated three-eyed fish in front of national TV to prove it was perfectly safe...only to spit it out after the first bite. Would be too funny if it happened to the Japanese politicians who came up with this.

4 ( +8 / -4 )

Am sure, as me, if any one tried ‘to feed’ me, people form the IOC will say...

NO.

Apples are from Aomori.

Aomori?

How? Through the water, air, soil? Kind of a bold statement. Not calling you a lair, just wondering about your research.

-2 ( +6 / -8 )

You would think they would at least offer visitors a choice.

Ah, then again...Daren't do that.

Apples are from Aomori. Fukushima, Gumma, ibaraki and Yamagata are also very contaminated according to my research as well. The levels in lwate and Miyaki are mostly in fish, rice, mountain vegetables, tabbacco and milk and beef.

for a 3 day visit, you can eat as much beta and gamma radionuclides, your exposure will be the same or less as a normal X-ray. The problem is, if you eat such contaminated food every meal, every day, you can’t stop science(cancer, LDR, heart, organ, DNA damage, immune system failure etc) by watching LDP false information that it is safe.

Super healthy human guinea pigs galore! Lol!

Might as well award da-kine caesium medals instead of gold and silver!

What the ...!

0 ( +5 / -5 )

Serve it up to the old fellas in the Diet first.

if they eat it, then I suppose it’s ok.

Everybody watching Shinzo take the first mouthful.

Fish! From Fukushima!Just near the port is the best! Make sure to provide iodine tablets for any case

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

"By offering food from three disaster-hit prefectures, we hope to sweep away the false reputation of food from the regions and contribute to the restoration,"

THIS is why Japan is no good at international diplomacy. Some self-serving moron wants to kickstart a local economy and so tells people what they should think is a good idea. The logic is absolutely dumbfounding. When members of the IOC protest this and Japan looks like a laughing stock, as is always the case when such stupid ideas come up, they'll get defensive and say you're attacking their culture.

11 ( +16 / -5 )

Who will confirm the food is actually from that region? My bet is that they relabel the food, pretending its from the disaster struck prefectures and if not, will Abe also eat? questions, questions.

10 ( +13 / -3 )

Recently it was revealed that the Chenoval area is way more radiated than first thought, guessing in 10 years we will be told "Christ" we had no idea Fucashima was a waiste land, oh! and we spread the joy over the whole land to ensure everyone's participation. Sure feed it to currupt old men feed it to the LDP, news reporters, just keep it away from my family.

3 ( +10 / -7 )

I would be sure to bring a lot of food in my suitcase then!
