I saw cars driving around in the rain this afternoon with chains on.

Yet more unnecessary panic from the media. just like the coronavirus.

Good grief man, it's a weather report. You are aware that they are intended to predict possible inclement weather as well as sunshine?

I don’t know how you define downtown Tokyo, but in my area it is accumulating. No pani, just people being asked to be reasonable and avoid unnecessary risks

while they are well-meaning, and you might say to a friend who is just setting off into a blizzard, it always seems a bit strange to say so to the entire world, or at least all of those reading JT.

Back in 2013 Fed 14 a big snowstorm hit central Honshu closing down a lot of trains for 24 hours.

It was 2014, but that was a unique winter storm. It came from the south, hammered kanto and chubu but never affected Nagano, Gifu, Niigata etc.

A once in a century set of weather conditions, very memorable.

The snow is melting on the roads where you are, well as the temperature drops that will freeze and at first become black ice, a major cause of car accidents and people slipping and severally injuring themselves.

I was raised in a country that can be defined as winter, 30 cm snow, ice roads all perfectly normal, but I am also very aware of dangers of freezing rain and even a little snow in places like Tokyo.

Cars don't have winter tires, people don't have proper footwear, there are few salt distribution trucks and very few people have a snow shovel.

So ok you have and agenda to go after the media or covid denial, vaccine, China, whatever, so you use any chance to do it.

But use your head sometimes and think of the situation that can develop and the job of the media to give the forecast in the event the worst scenario happens.

Never seen anyone in Canada or North America but I have seen people using umbrellas when it snows in places like London and Paris where they rarely get snow like Tokyo area.

In Hokkaido I have rarely seen umbrellas in the winter same in Aomori, Niigata, etc...

Seems to be something people in places that rarely get snow do.

The snow is now beginning to come down, and if it continues as forecasted until 4am, tomorrow could be challenging to get around. Stay safe everyone.

Then no need to panic, nor blame the media doing their job to pass on what info they know, which many people might not know.

Weather reports and channels are some of the most popular, most people want to know what is forecast. Weather channels are so popular, even the king of media Rupert M. is starting his own channel perhaps to spread even more fear is his already fearful followers.

Maybe because I am from the land of Snow, I don't understand the big problem. The snow in Tokyo is never so bad to tell everyone to be safe.

The issue is that Tokyo's infrastructure is seriously unsuited for any bit of snow. The entire city turns into a hellish ice skating rink, what with idiots pouring hot water onto the snow and everywhere is slippery AF. The reason it makes news when it snows in Tokyo is because it becomes a catastrophe every time they get even a wee little dusting of white.

It is so rare to get snow in Tokyo including the Kanto region. So some parts of public transportation were stopped. Many senior high school students need to go to their destinations to take tests. I hope they will be successful.

Due to the backing up of stranded commuters the sewage system backed up also causing one awful stanch. Lucky even back then had a mask on. I didn’t want to catch a bad flu getting around. I was in Starbucks watching the punters trudging in and out of the station and saw two punters take a fall. One bloke slip over just inside the entry knocking himself out and started bleeding from a head gash. There were 2 police officers near by and see it happened also and rush over not to help him but try bring him to by shaking him by his collar and when the bloke come to they started questioning like he was a criminal. I was watching all of this up above in Starbucks. The smell of coffee was much better the the back up sewer system in the station. So don’t rush and take care.

Gotta love the J-cops thinking the guy was drunk probably..

I am thoroughly impressed people can find some way to take potshots at China in an article about snow in Tokyo.

Anyway, normally I would say this shouldn't be a big deal, but we have seen time and again how poorly prepared Tokyo is for snow. Hopefully people are okay and they stop pouring water on their steps to try clearing snow. Give yourself extra time to head in to the office tomorrow cause trains are probably going to be notably delayed.

Maybe because I am from the land of Snow, I don't understand the big problem. The snow in Tokyo is never so bad to tell everyone to be safe. Just like the baby hurricanes here. But I did live in Hawaii for a long time as well.
