The annual Tokyo Bay fireworks festival was canceled on Sunday due to strong winds.
The event is usually held on the second Saturday night each August, but this year, it was scheduled for Sunday night from 6:50 p.m. until 8:10 p.m. About 12,000 fireworks were planned to be shot up from barges in Tokyo Bay.
A torrential downpour hit central Tokyo between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. and strong winds continued throughout the early afternoon, prompting organizers to cancel the event.
Staff were stationed at nearby Kachidoki Station to break the news to people who started arriving from about 2 p.m.

There is no reason that display fireworks can't be placed back into storage magazines and used again for other shows.

Fireworks are not usable after a certain period. And the event is cancelled, not postponed, interestingly.

Osaka as well - the big Naniwa Yodogawa Hanabi was canceled today after being postponed yesterday.

Aren't they going to rechedule it? How about this coming Saturday or Sunday? No good?

They announced the cancellation at around 10am, based on the forecasted stormy weather. what started to happen from 11am may have shown they were right to cancel.

What do they do with all the fireworks? I mean, aren't they paid for?
