The person incharge of this immigration center is clearly incompetent, and not up to the job. This person obviously does not understand the concept of "duty of care".

I would suggest that he/she be removed from their post with immediate effect.

The prison system, which the detention center works under vI do believe, have archaic rules and regulations dating back to the Meiji era.

I would suggest that you approach your supervisor or union, if you are a member, and ask for a transfer to a quieter place.

You see, when you get a lot of people together, they actually communicate with each other. It's been going on for thousands of years. It generates sound.

If you cannot handle that, then you, and anybody else working at the center are not up to your jobs.

Keeping these immigrants here and pent up for extended periods is not a good policy and they should all be deported immediately instead.

Whatever the rights of the Turkish man’s immigration case are, he is still a human being and entitled to medical care. That he almost died as a lack of it is a stain on Japan’s name.

There seems to be a lack of concern for humans on this thread and more concern about upholding the law and taxes. That a detainee almost died (and others have) seems to be of no concern to people more interested in keeping Japan “Japanese” and not waste “our” tax yen on them. This lack of compassion seems world-wide, as well. Maybe each country wants to be isolated from everyone else; so, bring back Close Japan?

All this could be avoided if they would just immediately deport these people, put back on flights to whence they came. You start slipping on this Japan, and the word will get out you've become a soft touch like the West and then the floodgates will open.

The authorities have a duty of care to everyone in their custody. This is innhumane, people should lose their jobs over this. They don't seem to have any onsite healthcare facilities and health care professionals neither, which is shocking.

The guy was obviously in horrible pain. Typical Japanese response to getting caught treating people like animals. Deny, Deflect and Distract. The three Ds strike again. The 'We can do no wrong' reflex all while staring down the barrel of obvious gross incompetence is a thing to behold. Who do they think they're fooling? Guys that work in prisons etc I would imagine are reminants of an old school mindset like those that were prevalent during WW2. Times have changed boys, so has the world.

It beggars belief that in the 21 century that a modern nation like Japan can't supply a doctor to some one who is clearly in need, this barbaric lack of action on behalf of the immigration centre is almost unforgivable, and as for the man who died, partial or full responsibility falls cleanly on the detention managers shoulders, he's responsible and should face court action. weather if someone is a detainee or not they should have access to medical care,

Not true. The NHS is struggling due to systematic underfunding since 2010, coupled with the fact that non-UK staff have been told they aren't welcome anymore.

Amazing the number of dislikes to perfectly reasonable and compssionate comments and just shows how may people, mostly Japanese I would assume, actually support the inhumane behviour of the Immigration Departmment.

I would have thought that there should have been at least some first Aiders on site at the Immigration offices, and given the detention venue, surely at least one Medical staff.

They should be named & shamed and prevented from holding such offices anywhere else, since I surely wouldnt feel comfortable knowing that the person I may be working with was just a pretend Medic, and couldn't care less for you, except for the additional $ they receive.

Has nothing to do with 'soft touch' but with human rights. Even 'luck seekers' among asylum seekers should be provided with medical treatment. With 20 status holders out of 20.000 asylum applications in 2017 there will be no sight on a whatever 'floodgate' so don't project your Western fear on the Japanese situation.

Yes. In my experience the majority of immigration officers are good, but I have come across some extremely nasty immigration officers. There seems to be no mechanism in Japanese bureaucracy to keep them in check.

When I was deported from japan, all the young staff tried so hard to help me. But the fat old man at his desk didn’t budge. I wanted to thank the young staff, but had to leave. Came back on a tourist visa.

Asylum seekers are not undocumented immigrants and are accorded certain procedural rights per international law. You know, the law Japan pays lip service to when it wants to burnish its image to the rest of the world..
