It is a prejudicial  system, but they want to make it look like a fair one. How stupid are Japanese ?

But that's already 2 years of their lives spent

Depending on how they spent those 2 years, how is the university going to rectify that

Ex: if they already attended another medical school, is Tokyo Medical going to transfer the credits? They can't expect the students to spend an extra 4 years at Tokyo Medical, in addition to 2 years already at another medical school - plus the extra years' worth of expensive tuition

Or what if they spent those 2 years buying books and studying to pass the exam again, while working part-time to support themselves while they study - is Tokyo Medical going to reimburse them for those living and study expenses?

Some or all?

This isn’t the only university that has limited female enrollment. The National Defense Medical College only allows 30% of their enrollment to be females.

it's wrong for those who would have been on the bottom of the selection list because now the cutoff point is higher you really dont understand averages do you. the whole point is many of the men who passed the exam would have failed if many of the womens results werent rigged. FACT is many of these women are more talented / smarter than many of men that were accepted. why would you want to dumb down the medical fraternity especially when they're dealing in people's lives!? Like another poster put it Id prefer to have the most gifted surgeon operating on me who is a complete a**hole, than an average surgeon who is a nice guy/gal

Ugh. This gives me the feeling of when I ordered something online that turned out to be false advertising, and when I complained I was only given store credit. No thanks...

@Rocketpanda - But they have been doing this for 10 years

That woukd be be closer to 100 years. It was only a little over 100 years ago that women were actually allowed to attend university.

Tokyo Medical University initially planned to offer admission only to this year's affected applicants, but changed its mind over potential criticism of the different treatment applied to those affected in 2017, according to the sources.

But they have been doing this for 10 years. How is an institute that systematically and intentionally holds back paying students allowed to even allowed to in business?

so after the poor women lost time from their life, they will go again to same school which crushed their dreams?

how they can trust the school wont fail them again halfway?

they should allow them to have full free education!

else, what punishment the school's board faced? are they allowed to remain in their chairs judging students based on gender?

You should re enroll, immediately complain of stress due to discrimination and seek a head to grass apology from the eldest person in the building...hey I’m being logical here.

Very generous of them. Smeh

Ah_so, you don't get it, do you ?

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

so if you let them in and decrease next year's quota then the consequences of your actions are still passed on to somebody else. two wrongs don't make a right

Reducing the numbers in future years is not an equal and opposite "wrong".

If the pass marks for men were altered so that only 30% of those passing were men in order to allow extra women in, then that would be a valid "wrong" for your example.

Compensation, as simple as that. So many people were affected and their carriers are ruined. Time is money, time is live. I was mistreated, and I had given up my original hope to be a PM. How many people are suffered from this, and how could you change their lives too ?

So wrong, the system is stacked against you unless you are a rich or male :(
