A person from overseas linked with the Paralympics, but not an athlete, has been hospitalized after testing positive on Monday for the coronavirus. The patient is not displaying severe symptoms, committee spokesman Masanori Takaya said.
Meanwhile, tens of thousands of Japanese taxpayers with symptoms are being told to sweat it out at home with their fingers crossed because there are no hospital beds available for them.
Ken
If they are not displaying severe symptoms then why are they being hospitalised ahead of locals who are being refused admission left, right and centre?!
Scorpion
Well...if there was no Paralympics then that ONE bed could be used for a person that lives in Japan..This event has OFFICIALLY affected the Japanese and foreign residents.

Call the IOC and tell them how you feel as I did late last night (mid-afternoon Lausanne time).
Telephone +41 21 621 61 11 and ask to talk to someone in the media section.
Be nice if you do please. The person(s) you talk to are not the ones making the bad decisions.
Tell them what it's like 'here on the ground' in Japan now and the optics we're witnessing with Bach's behavior.
With enough calls they might listen...... or don't. The number is above if you want to though.

Unfair isn’t it they get first class hospital service while we tax payer have to suffer from covid without medical support
Paul
Safe you said? You did didn't you? How about now?

Taking the hospital bed from a Japanese or foreign resident who might be in more dire need of hospitalization! It’s just sad that the citizens / residents of Japan are sacrificing so much including their life for the Olympics/ParaOlympics so that the IOC executives can fill their bags with gifts, cash and spend luxurious lifestyle during the games free of cost…thanks to the Japanese Government who wasted so much tax payers money for this farce! Future generations will suffer more economically due to this waste of money by the Government!
Nadrew
I can’t think of a single thing the Japanese government has ever been truthful about.

Don't feign to ignore that nobody on your list is being given preferential treatment. No beds is set aside except for olympians. If a tourist, artist, business person, ... on short term stay or a person japanese or not on long-term stay were to need a bed, they will go through the same process, which is currently for Tokyo area : hell to find a bed if for covid or even potential case of covid. Yet an olympian with non severe covid just got a bed like that.

Totally agree

At least is not one athlete, that would be included as a person of risk, but still every single hospitalization means one local person is going to stay in his house waiting for that space to open.

This is a smack in the face, to any tax-paying, health insurance carrying resident here, who has gotten seriously ill, and rides in an ambulance for hours, only to be told to "stay home".

Current policy: Let's send every positive to the hospital even if no severe symptoms then claim "we have no beds" then advertise "vaccine or we lockdown" and "lack of vaccination is bringing the economy down so we must lockdown", try to follow the silly logic of this insane world, makes zero sense so don't miss it.

A nonresident/nonJapanese gets a bed with minor symptoms. How many more will take our beds? Do you think some Japanese residents, kids, babies and adults as well as permanent residents might die due to this?
thelonius
In Japan, "moderate symptoms" would be considered severe overseas. i.e. requiring oxygen. "severe" means critical, i.e. on a ventilator with low odds of surviving.

I'm not sure what "not displaying severe symptoms" means, but if it's on the Japanese "moderate" scale, the patient is in rough shape.

Same could be said for tourists, visiting business people, performing artists that are touring or any foreigners that have come here to work, and that includes many of the readers of Japan Today.
Should we all go home?
