We need real figures.

In fact, as I understand it, mass testing actually runs counter to the mitigation strategy that is still working well until now.

Yet outgoing PM Abe pledged testing would be ramped up to 200,000 tests a day if it is working why did he pledge the massive increase?

Hope being in denial and feeling good that it is working won't come to bite.

Everyone and their dog is on the road right now so the numbers will be well up next week!

If it's nearly impossible to get a test then number of tests should be nearly zero

Headline on today's CBC:

Ontario reported 365 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, with the province having processed 40,127 tests on Saturday, a new record for a single day.

Literally everything Tokyo cannot do. Japan needs quantity of tests to determine just what their exposure really is, and that can only happen if you do enough tests. This milestone was reached on a weekend, also something that cannot be done, and it only took a day.

It didn't happen overnight, it took work, it took making mistakes, but learning from that and improving the result gives us an understanding today that we can look with confidence.

Japan in general and Tokyo specifically is totally capable of doing this too, if it wants to.

If Tokyo really wants the Olympics back, it'll have to

Lol you're actually saying up to now it isn't working?

You're not just in denial, you're actually deluded =)

Kagoshima now with zero active cases, joining Ehime, Iwate and Shimane. Active cases still falling across the country, although at a slower pace. Things heading in the right direction despite what the doom and gloom merchants on JT might say.

Really Jane, I am not spreading false rumors, a Japanese doctor I know who has referred patients of his for testing some receive them and others not they provide him with no explanations

You said it is nearly impossible to get a test so you are clearly spreading false information.

And you even directly contradicted yourself by indicating you can get a test anytime if you're willing to pay for it.

In any case, if you really want to determine the extent of exposure of a place or country, what you should do is do randomized testing or test the whole population.

Japan doesn't have to and obviously it doesn't want to.

Would be nice to see Tokyo infections drop into double figures, but in any case, active COVID cases in Japan have continued to fall, and there are 3 prefectures with 0 active cases. Hopefully we can see numbers start to drop further.

Must be the explosion after Obon, eh?
