If you look at a high level graph of new cases we have passed two peaks, one in April and a higher one in August, and now the trough after August is stabilizing and is substantially higher than the prior troughs after April. One might conclude based on that that the next peak will come in December and be higher than the first two. Let's see what happens.

Not necessarily. If you look at the curve for cases and the curve for deaths, the curve for cases in the second peak was higher than that for the first. However, the curve for deaths in the second peak was lower than that of the first (from the link below).

That said, true case numbers are difficult to discern thanks to Japan's arcane testing regime, so it's difficult to draw clear conclusions other than the death rate seems to be declining.

Covid-19 data. From the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.

https://stopcovid19.metro.tokyo.lg.jp/en/

Number of hospitalized people reported yesterday: 1057.

Number of hospitalized people reported today: 976.

Difference between yesterday and today: -81

Mild-moderate and Serious symptoms data. They are already included in the total number of people hospitalized.

Great news. The total number of people hospitalized in Tokyo Prefecture is under 1000. Now the important thing is to try to keep that number from rising.

By the way. According to these figures. The number of people hospitalized for coronavirus, per 100,000 inhabitants is: 7.

976 ÷ 13929280 x 100000 = 7,0068

Reaching the threshold established by the WHO of 6 people per 100,000 inhabitants. To give as controlled, the incidence of coronavirus in Tokyo Prefecture.

My congratulations to the health authorities in Tokyo. For your success.

The CDC estimates that 40% of coronavirus cases are asymptomatic and that number is a conservative estimate which may actually mean that herd immunity is not far off.
