The Tokyo metropolitan government on Thursday reported 195 new cases of the coronavirus, up 136 from Wednesday. The number is the result of 1,952 tests conducted on Sept 21.
The age group with the most cases were people in their 20s (53), followed by 38 in their 30s.
The tally brought Tokyo's cumulative total to 24,648.
The number of infected people in Tokyo with severe symptoms is 28, unchanged from Wednesday, health officials said.
As of 6:30 p.m., the number of reported cases nationwide was 472. After Tokyo, the prefectures with the most cases were Osaka (66), Kanagawa (58), Aichi (34), Chiba (26) and Saitama (21).
