The Tokyo metropolitan government on Friday reported 195 new cases of the coronavirus, the same number as Thursday. The number is the result of 1,870 tests conducted on Sept 22.
The age groups with the most cases were people in their 20s (46), followed by 40 in their 40s and 39 in their 30s.
The tally brought Tokyo's cumulative total to 24,843.
The number of infected people in Tokyo with severe symptoms is 30, up two from Thursday, health officials said.
Nationwide, the number of reported cases was 567. After Tokyo, the prefectures with the most cases were Kanagawa (79), Osaka (62), Aichi (38), Chiba (31), Saitama (28), Hokkaido (25) and Hyogo (12).
Seven coronavirus-related deaths were reported nationwide.

An incidence rate of 10%? Isn't that extremely high?
Ipanema Beach
Yes it would make Japan's rate the worst on Earth by far. Everyone with half a brain knows Japan has tens of millions of cases that they are covering up because of low testing.
Exactly! A doctor who turned me down for a Covid test also confirmed to me that they are only doing tests for the well off and not for the plebs, etc.
TokyoJoe
It seems since Suga has taken over testing has dropped from around 5000 per day to between 1-2000 per day.

That depends on the kind of testing being done,
For general indiscriminate testing of anybody that wishes to be tested, it would be alarmingly high.
On the contrary, very restricted testing done on only a small fraction of people heavily suspected of being positive it is not that bad. Specially in Japan where the inconceivable situation of testing sites being mostly closed during weekends and holidays means that only "high priority" tests are being done (people being hospitalized for example).

Compare Japan with France where they are literally testing people off the street for FREE.

d) companies looking to get all or a sizeable part of their staff tested and are will to pay for it (lots of businesses do this)...
e) any "business travelers" who want to go abroad and need a test for their visa...
f) people who already tested positive a few weeks ago to confirm that they have officially recovered (may even be re-tested 3 or 4 times total)...
...or in other words, certainly not just people with any sort of symptom.

First they were asking for the test numbers everyday . Now they posting the positive rate everyday and no context what so ever.
Perhaps the mods can also do the division and also mention that tests aren't random and should not be interpreted willy nilly

@bob
Sorry, I meant outside my house, i.e in supermarkets etc. I don't wear a mask outside.

And how many symptoms are there and how many are you supposed to show to qualify ?
Is everybody linked to a confirmed case tested even if they don't show symptoms or where in contact 3 days earlier ? Lets see how much you know.
noriahojanen
It's NOT free, financed by public money, and people will get levied sooner or later. Besides, France has failed to save many lives, how could Japan possibly need to follow it??
I oppose to such universal testing-at-will program without any doctors' consent. It's waste of public money and abuse of medical resources which would be much better utilized for other areas in urgent needs. If really seeking a test only to relieve your worry, you should pay for it yourself.

Coughing , high temperature will get you an appointment. Loss of taste and smell too. The doctors will also make an X ray of your lungs.
Everyone in contact with a confirmed case is eligible for a free test. Is everyone linked to a confirmed case tested ? Well this is on a best effort basis and depends on how much the subjects are willing to disclose . The 3 day bit I don't quite understand.

LOL test results from a total of 1,870 test nation wide LOL and only in TOKYO they confirm 195....
This is a joke guys and i know moderators will delete me for saying this. But to think that this pandemic is sooo contagious even with a mask yet japan gets away with low numbers. Look at what they are doing its called down playing the issue. They dont care if you get infected given that this virus is no HOAX. But for anyone who got sick and died from this virus would say is not a HOAX. We will never know the truth, I still havent caught this virus despite going outside on weekends in crowded places. Infact you cantg socail distance in japan as it is sooooooooooooo crowded. Trains everyday for commuters would = virus spread everyday regardless of masks if this virus was soooo contagious.... Please think about what the media is reporting to be fake or true.

you might also want to wear a garlic necklace. It will have as much effect as wearing a mask outdoors.

@bob
Thanks, interesting article.
Would indicate either japan is doing something right or has lucked out with an unknown factor x.
Eitherway, will keep wearing a mask outdoors but otherwise carry on with my daily life.

Covid-19 data. From the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
Number of hospitalized people reported yesterday: 1170
Number of hospitalized people reported today: 1083.
Difference between yesterday and today: -87
I have also calculated the percentage of hospitalized people per 100,000 inhabitants. Using the following mathematical formula. Total number of hospitalized people ÷ official census of Tokyo Prefecture x 100000 inhabitants.
1083 ÷ 13929280 x 100000 = 7,77%
According to the WHO itself. To control the incidence of coronavirus. A ratio of less than 6% per 100,000 inhabitants is needed. And Tokyo is progressively approaching that threshold.
The data is very good. And the trend is downward. My congratulations to the Tokyo health authorities.

No, because they're not testing randomly; mainly people of having the virus or people arriving from overseas. That means 90% of the people tested don't have it, taking into account false positives and negatives.

You can call covid support line and they will explain. For a free test you must either show symptoms or a link to a confirmed case.

615 adults in Tokyo were prospectively recruited to take Sars-Cov-2 antibody tests.
When the study began 6% had antibodies, indicating exposure.
By mid-summer 47% did. Half the population.
Not one person was hospitalized or died...
