The Tokyo Metropolitan Government on Tuesday reported 209 new cases of the coronavirus, up 123 from Monday. The number is the result of 2,251 tests conducted on Oct 31.
The tally brought Tokyo's cumulative total to 31,502.
The number of infected people in Tokyo with severe symptoms is 32, unchanged from Monday, health officials said.
Nationwide, the number of reported cases was 864. After Tokyo, the prefectures with the most cases were Osaka (156), Aichi (85), Hokkaido (71), Kanagawa (69), Hyogo (52), Chiba (40), Saitama (30) and Okinawa (19).

But Japan does only test people who want to get testes, thus are experiencing symptoms therefore are more likely to test positive. I think if they were to test every single person in Tokyo the % would probably be lower.. right..?

I can just imagine this poster jumping out of a plane, pulling his chute, and halfway saying 'this whole falling thing is hysteria. I'm clearly going slow enough that this parachute wasn't necessary in the first place', and cutting it off half way down.
Then being really confused right before his brain becomes an ink stain on the ground.

Are humans not get sick with this daily reporting of common flu cases...lol

@james
Not doubting you but on the flip side I and many people I know have used go-to and are fine.
Also, I know many people in the tourism industry who credit go-to with keeping them in work.

WHO suggests a lockdown only if medical institutes cannot handle the number of new daily patients requiring medical attention this is not the case here in Japan thus a lockdown is not needed.
When we had the original lockdown at the start If we had not reopened everything after only two weeks and had maintained the lockdown for a further 2 -3 weeks we would not be having the situation we have now and Japan would most likely be free of covid-19 community transmissions.
No point crying over transmitted viruses... get on with life wear a mask when you go shopping, and use hand sanitisers and don't use the Go campaigns unless you wish to get covid-19 (a number of people I know used it and they are now sick)

Covid-19 data. From the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
Number of hospitalized people reported yesterday: 1031.
Number of hospitalized people reported today: 1024.
Day-over-day change: -7 persons
Mild-moderate and Serious symptoms data. They are already included in the total number of people hospitalized. It should also be remembered that data on severe symptoms are already reflected in the Japan Today article. And there is no need to mention them again in the comments.

Good idea. Get rid of the things that have made that 'six' possible.
Objective
We need to be rational and realize Japan is not suffering the carnage of other countries with regard to Covid.
Following mainstream news and social media causes stress in so many people.
It is always the invisible things that cause panic: Covid, Radiation, CO2, GMOs...
There is more room to manipulate facts on these issues to cause desired reactions.
The public just needs to be prudent and cautious. 8 months in and Japan is doing fine.

Only if you are willing to keep the borders closed indefinitely.

You are joking, but that is what the regressive left in the West actually demands. Thank fully, Japan is not quite so insane.

It's so low, but little better would be nice..

What were the ages of the 6?
n1k1
Right, but how do we know it is over and how and when do we open to the rest of the world ? Also this might take 6 months , it will cost lost jobs , rise in crime and political unrest which in turn will cost even more.
The PCR tests aren't really reliable metrics for infections and the only other way is to monitor the situation around hospitals which in Japan is OK.
If and when we have a good solid indication the vaccines are effective and with us pushing for one last state of emergency to regroup is probably the most we can afford.
bokuda
Today is almost 10% of positives.
If this is a significant sample of population, as they want us to believe, then we are the country with most infected people in the whole wide world.

I agree with Zoroto,
All it takes is strong leadership, then communities can understand and buy into the project, Government support for small businesses, and a concerted effort of testing and tracing. Unfortunately in Japan that ship has sailed.
The Economic pain is real, but I really think the countries mentioned demonstrate it's preferable to the slow drawn out mess we now have in Japan.

@Monty
Dear Monty, I sincerely hope some day you'll be able to see other colors in your world, than just black and white.

It is possible that there may be a connection between people not catching the virus and hospitals not being overloaded....
AgentX
I thought the lockdowns were never intended to stop the virus, but rather keep the load on hospitals down...
Keep moving the goal posts!
Dan Lavender
Actually full lockdowns that were implemented in the U.K etc didn't work well because the contact tracing was ineffective and people didn't properly quarantine themselves at home.
Sigh..
Do the hustle
So, 10% of those tested were positive. Kasumigaseki, we have a problem.

We need to learn how to hunt for food and not be dependent on food markets and grocerie stores. Food Foo and Food crisis can cause an entire shutdown of cities. Lets hope we never short on food supply.

If the virus was sooo horrific and truly exists as a killer wasp disguised as tiny virus that can not be seen by the naked eye then I'm sure Japanese government would not be clapping there hands and making you want to travel at the high risk of getting that deadly virus and opening up the Olympics. Sounds and smells too fishy.
I believe the Japanese Govt knows better that this bugger is nothing but a tiny little cold and so they are promoting everyone to dance around and fly around during a pandemic. Which remind of that shibuya Halloween article post by JToday few days ago with a guy with a post that said Covid is a lie. I honestly don't even try to think about this anymore as i want freedom and nor do i wear a mask lately either. Is that a good POEM @Nihonview?

Let us shut down Tokyo immediately!
Let us all quit our jobs, to avoid the packed trains in the morning.
Let us all lock down in our appartement and spend the rest of our saving money for Cup Noodle.
Let us all sleep in Tokyo Parks, because we will have no money to pay the rent, but we can keep social distance in the parks.
And then let us all die from hunger, frostbites or depression.
But at least, we didn't take any risk to catch Corona.
Kaerimashita
Shut it all down!!

209 is pretty significant portion of 2251. I can imagine how many cases we'd have if they tested all 20 million people in Tokyo.
