The Tokyo metropolitan government on Saturday reported 226 new cases of the coronavirus, up 39 from Friday. The number is the result of 5,301 tests conducted on Sept 9.
The age groups with the most cases were people in their 30s (55), 40s (53) and 20s (51).
The tally brought Tokyo's cumulative total to 22,857.
The number of infected people with severe symptoms is 23, one down from Friday, health officials said.
Nationwide, the number of reported cases was 551. After Tokyo, the prefectures with the most cases were Osaka (83), Kanagawa (68), Saitama (37), Aichi (29), Gunma (24), Fukuoka (14) and Okinawa (11).
