Back in Osaka today and popped out earlier to see what’s occurring.

Very busy round here, people out having fun without a care in the world, wonderful to see.

The facts about this new variant are that although highly contagious it’s very mild. This combined with most having antibodies ensures no serious problems.

The vaccines provide a little help which wanes very quickly, helpful to the vulnerable yet seemingly pointless and maybe damaging to kids according to recent research in Singapore

Absolute rot, perpetuated by people like John Campbell who misread studies.

This is quite a jump, also yesterday. Hope these are flukes but that's too much to hope for.

Let's follow the usual precautions take care everyone

Japan reports 209,694 new coronavirus cases

Japan continues to get hit hard.

The best way to not become infected is to not get infected.

Amazing that Macau is reporting zero cases while Japan sees its numbers continue to skyrocket out of control.

And to think at one point Japan was being lauded for its "efforts".

The vax is ineffective against the new strain.

And the unfortunate who have died in recent days have had numerous comorbidities, so it's ludicrous to call their passing "caused by" corona. Died WITH does not equal died FROM.

Japan has done very well at managing the Covid-19 pandemic*

Japan’s COVID deaths per capita is 246 per million people, the lowest out of the 38 members of the OECD, according to Our World in Data. It’s all the more significant given Japan has the highest proportion of elderly people — typically some of the most vulnerable to the coronavirus — in the world. New Zealand’s rate, previously the lowest, sits at 257 per million after the country faced its first substantial virus wave upon opening up and lifting curbs.

@Reckless

If everyone got it, you do not have to pay attention anymore. Just be patient

As for me, I stayed in a separate room to isolate and disinfected everytime I used the bathroom, toilet, and kitchen. My room was very hot, and the space to sleep not confortable. But it was a question of patience. The worst is I think to isolate while there are no symptoms, as the symptoms only last three days

Who failed to build more hospitals? The people in charge, locally and nationally.

Who failed to hire more medical professionals? The people in charge, locally and nationally.

Who failed to get enough beds? The people in charge, locally and nationally.

Tokyo, Osaka, Okinawa. It is an endless trifecta of incompetence. They don't do what is necessary to prepare for the bi-annual summer and winter Covid festivals, and thus every time, Japan faces the same problem.

But who gets slapped with the blame?

"It's the naysers!...The anti-everything crowd... The antivaxxers, and antimaskers... It's all these peoples fault!...It's their fault the Okinawa medical system is on the verge of collapse, even if they've never even been to Okinawa recently or ever... Stop travelling, don't have fun!... Confine yourself to your apartment!...The 3Cs!.... Do it now and this can be over with!...gotta add more border restrictions...book your fifth booster appointment, get the 1st-4th as soon as you can if you haven't...we just have to hunker down and deal with this once and for all... until you have to listen to me guilt trip you again in six months..."

"Hmm, yeh don't think we're going to be able to let foreigners in. Even though their countries have lower Covid counts, the 256 tourists who came here in the past month were obviously the catalyst behind this wave. It's a once in a century endemi... I mean, pandemic after all. But my heart goes out to those poor travel businesses. My heart just weeps for them! Truly nothing can be done but wave a rising sun flag and chant the hulk-like mantra of 'Ganbare Nippon!'"

"You have no sources to cite your claims. There is widespread consensus among the scientific community that vaccines are safe and effective. Previously infected and feel comfort in your natural immunity? Your actual life experience means nothing and your opinion holds no value. Oh, you have data that clearly shows more deaths over a one year period in an 80% fully vaccinated versus an unvaccinated Japan? Well CLEARLY that is because we are dealing with a more transmissible variant of the virus, and the vaccine's purpose is to reduce DEATHS not transmission (even though it totally reduces transmission too actually!). I am not a statistician and will not reference any sources even though I chide people all the time over this but still your analysis is still scientific and holds NO VALUE!"

The army of armchair medical experts want to blame people who have stopped caring and just want to live their lives to the fullest without having to add a peer-researched citation to every thing they say or do, instead of ACTUALLY holding the responsible parties accountable. Sad!

Irresponsible beyond belief, Steve.

It's not wonderful. It's selfish. Think of the healthcare industry.

Those masks and vaccines are working really well, aren't they? The government should be promoting measures that actually work, but we're not allowed to talk about them here.

-7 ( +5 / -12 )

I know this is anecdotal but it seems to be more and more the norm.

Anyway, I was at a BBQ and most people weren't vaccinated. Including myself. One guy who was vaccinated came down with the virus 2 days later and it has hit him hard. He's been really ill for about 10 days. The guy in question is/was only a little overweight and about 30 years-old. More and more evidence the vaccines make one more susceptible to infection and more susceptible to serious illness if infected.

John Noun

How does people being out and having fun have anything to do with the healthcare industry?

ive looked after myself over the years and luckily I wasn’t born with a disability or anything. If people have health issues and/or are afraid of catching Covid they need to take the necessary precautions. The rest of society isn’t their nursemaid. If you’re sick the governments job is to do that. People need to go out amd have fun and more importantly support their local economy and socialise.

Hising away and living in fear increases stress which reduces the the immune systems ability to function. Maintain a PMA ( Positive Mental Attitude), eat well, be happy and most importantly use your body, exercise boosts the immune system, essential in these times.

No it's not.

Do you know anyone you consider smart? Ask that person if your reasoning is correct

Allow them the right to choose without being so discriminatory against them.

People are quite welcome to be unvaxxed. The discrimination is not against their vaccination status, it’s the lies they perpetuate in order to justify it.

5 ( +9 / -4 )

As for the Public attitude towards this increasing number of cases - I often see lots of younger people "working folks"- parading themselves around Super markets without face-masks, whilst the rest of us wear them... even supermarkets with signs on the doorways saying that Masks are Mandatory - turn a blind eye to this... For example NISSIN within the Azabu-Juban area, is an excellent example - For Japanese persons it appears to be fine to break this rule....

Who failed to hire more medical professionals? The people in charge, locally and nationally.

Where did all these extra medical professionals for-hire come from, did they magically appear in the workforce somehow?

exactly they'll make any excuse not to take it, I personally dont give too hoots of people are vaccinated or not, what really pees me off are the lies they make not backed by any medical eveidence to justify why they wont take it. Its their lies or misinformation that might fool others into thinking the same, we already know how dangerous lies and misinformation is

My J sister in law works in a hospital treating covid patients, and the fact now like it was 2 yrs ago are the vast majority of those in serious condition are unvaxxed, yes there are some fully vaxxed as well, but they tend to be elderly or people with underlying conditions, this hasnt changed throught out the entire pandemic. FACT
