The Tokyo metropolitan government on Friday reported 449 new cases of the coronavirus, down 84 from Thursday. The number is the result of 7,443 tests conducted on Dec 1.
The tally brought Tokyo's cumulative total to 42,793.
By age group, the highest number of cases were people in their 20s (107), followed by 91 in their 30s, 80 in their 40s and 50 in their 50s.
The number of infected people hospitalized with severe symptoms in Tokyo is 53, down one from Thursday, health officials said.
Nationwide, the number of infected cases was 2,442. After Tokyo, the prefectures with the most cases were Osaka (394), Aichi (215), Hokkaido (212), Kanagawa (188), Saitama (163), Hyogo (129), Ibaraki (85), Chiba (75), Okinawa (47), Fukuoka (45), Shizuoka (41) and Kyoto (35).
Forty-five deaths were reported.

Disagree, numbers have clearly been kept between the 400’s and 500’s for now. Check the last past few days and keep an eye for the next couple of weeks.
It’s giving a false sense of control over the situation, so Tokyo does not need to go through another state of emergency as Osaka is going now, as it would send a negative image to foreign countries, increasing the risk of no Olympics.
My advise to everyone is keep wearing mask at all times, keep social distance as much as possible and avoid indoors and gatherings at all cost.

Totally agree. Do not assume what the government is reporting is accurate. From Day 1 they have been determined to set the narrative to suit their needs. For months now, they’ve been saying they will increase testing to 60,000 a day and so far nothing much has changed. It still costs over 300 dollars to get a PCR test. Still around 7,000 tests a day. They are simply trying to run out the clock until a vaccine arrives and hoping to limit the damage. It’s quite disappointing that the Japanese government has taken this lackluster approach but given it is run by those old LDP farmers is anyone surprised? They are incapable of coming up with fresh ideas that we have seen in Taiwan and SKorea. Unless you consider the 5 kos and the 3 c’s an innovative approach. It’s laughable.

There is just no pattern, it is just like imagining what life might be on Mars. There is obviously alot going that is not revealed to the public, the mainstream media can't be trusted so no hope of knowing what is happening.

Just understand what is going on all over the world. Japan is not immune to this pandemic. People be proactive regarding your health and for heavens sake, trust nothing the Japanese government says to you.

The WHO estimates 80% of COVID-19 cases are mild or asymptomatic (The U.K. says 86% there). I.e. They don't know they have it. But they can still spread the virus, in fact if you think about it, they are more likely to be spreading the virus due to ignorance, okay, being less worried, and lack of care.
Japan is the only major country NOT testing for mild/asymptomatic cases.
Logically that would mean there are a lot of spreaders out there running free.
Kinda skews those low figures, doesn't it.

PM suga need to step-up the effort to flatten the curve before the mass vaccination because there is still some objections on vaccine efficacy till then Japanese people and Foreign residing in Japan need to take responsibility to follow SOP's for at least for next 6 months when mass vaccination will begin.
