Good news that the numbers have gone down. Let’s keep testing and making sure the numbers continue to decline.

@Oxycodin

Good news that the numbers have gone down. Let’s keep testing and making sure the numbers continue to decline.

Irony we hope.

As Zoroto mentioned, and well, highest Monday ever, even though we are now in festive season, with very low testing happening.

More cases this Tuesday than last Tuesday. The same goes for everyday over the last two weeks.

Unfortunately case are trending us not down.

Well done Tokyo. That's a big drop. Hopefully this trend continues throughout Japan.

Wow! Who would have thought that decreased testing results in deceased positive cases. Just think, if Tokyo didn’t do any testing they would have zero new cases to put in the news.

Watch THIS number and react accordingly. The number of cases can look scary but the history of severe symptoms and deaths is not surging in Japan. That is a fact.

The trend of week-on-week increases?

481 on a low day. This is getting bad.

Agree.

Hopefully it stays that way.

But chances are this thing would go a lot worse before it gets better.

Really hope not.

In Japan, hospitalized people are those who can afford hospital if you want to compare to other countries !

i am very happy these numbers are dropping back to below the peak. the preventative measures are clearly working

@Gaki: Do you understand how Japanese health insurance works?

The TV doesn't stop airing travelling shows, this is a joke, lol

Indeed, as long as people with severe symptoms and deaths remain low, we should not worry about cases.

I suspect that the real infection numbers are about 100 times greater than the confirmed numbers (maybe higher). At this rate, we'll reach herd immunity before they start administering vaccines in Japan.

Wow, you couldn't have it more backwards.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Based on an unfounded assumption that herd immunity just "kinda arrives".

I hope you're not implying that herd immunity can only be achieved by vaccination.

I hope you're not implying that herd immunity can only be achieved by vaccination.

Nobody has ever implied that, the real argument is that vaccination is a much safer and effective way to achieve herd immunity than letting people die unnecessarily even if we had access to a safe and effective health intervention.

Is there any safe vaccin available then?

Dirk - Is there any safe vaccin available then?

There are 7 billion people asking the same question.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Is there any safe vaccin available then?

In countries that prepared properly yes, not yet for all members of society but at least to those that need protection the most.

In Japan, with its glacial speed in adopting new health measures, it is still months away. So pursuing herd immunity right now, by sacrificing unnecessarily people that could still have long productive lives, is not justified.

Is there any safe vaccin available then?

Only time (in years) will tell. It is way too soon to know whether any of these rushed experimental vaccines are truly safe.

Just because some bureaucrats (with conflicts of interest) say they are safe does not mean much.

That is still a strawman, the vaccine do not need to be absolutely safe, only safer than the infection. Which is already demonstrated.

And no, bureaucrats are not the ones saying it is safe, hundreds of health care professionals are the ones saying it, a nameless person without any idea of the process saying the contrary has even less value than whatever bureaucrats may say.

Scientific data demonstrates that the vaccine is safe, your personal opinion based on nothing but an imaginary and impossible conspiracy cannot deny this.
