> 121 per day is most ever in Japan.

Japan where is still obsessed with restriction of PCR test. there is even suspicion that reason of decrease PCR test is to make infection look small for holding Olympics as same as last year.

It will be even more suspicious if official numbers of infections are low yet number of deaths keep climbing, how do you think they will address that?

Way to go, Japan. Just tested only 1,621 people in Tokyo to keep the numbers down!

Why are they testing in way bigger numbers on other days then? To keep the numbers up?

I just read the above headline. Very shocking.

Headlines are meant to be.

You should read the whole article.

491 had the virus. Cannot hide from the fact that the Positivity rate is now 30%. Danger zone.

Olympics, here!

A couple of national Hollidays this month will help bringing the number further down.

Japan may toss 12M Pfizer vaccine doses due to shortage of special syringes.

I'm sorry, I haven't seen anything in foreign news about the downfall of Japan. If you have, I'd like to know where.

If you haven't then you have been deliberately trying not to.

I am not going to go about posting links, etc..

But CBC, BBC, CNN, etc.. all have had them going on and on about low testing, unreal numbers and of course the inevitable "is Japan about bto see the surge it missed in the spring" or something similar to that, often tucked in as part of an article about the Olympics.

The doomsday of Japan is so prevalent in western news that family members I haven't heard from in years in North America and Europe are suddenly contacting me to see if we are Ok.

@kuroneko

If the number of cases is indeed far higher than the official numbers then there should be a corresponding far higher number of deaths also.

Why arent we seeing it, how do we account for it?

Test are down because of the new laws.

Both my children's companies and my wife's company have now told them if they think they may be sick to contact the company and it will arrange for a private covid test.

Guess they don't want the government in their business and shutting them down.

I am not aware of any law that says private testing companies must report positive test to the government.

Does anyone know about this?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Is that record? Tokyo reported 25 deaths. That also might be a record

@Zoroto but with more deaths, you get fewer people in intensive care. So you can spin it as a positive result!

Oh give it a rest. It's the boasting/gloating by people such as yourself that winds people up.

You and I both know that the figures aren't truthful to a large extent.

Why on earth can't you show a little compassion towards countries having a hard time with the virus instead of boasting about 'apparent' low numbers here.

It drives me up the wall

Actually we don't know and if you do and have the evidence please share.

What we do know is the death rate for all causes has not risen like it has in other countries, so one could conclude that Japan hasn't been hit as hard and perhaps the results of testing are correct ( no I don't think they are but then I don't know the facts either.

But one things is factual many here and overseas in the west have been going on and on about the downfall of Japan and how covid will spread destructive like in the west and we are still waiting for that to happen.

I am not gloating I have lost family back home to covid I am just pointing out the truth and the comments here and on any article related to covid here.

So they are truthful to a small extent? Smgdfh...

@ian that someone in the administration is just pulling numbers out of a hat at this point which fit an agenda. It is painfully clear that the numbers have no relation to the number of tests (supposedly) being carried out, as can be seen from the wildly fluctuating positive percentages. It is also highly doubtful that the dramatic fall in daily new cases could really have happened, when the SOE amounts to little more than restaurants closing early, while other countries with strict lockdowns have seen a far lower reduction in case numbers despite far stricter measures and restrictions.

Hiroshima has now cut the mass pcr test from 800,000 to8,000 and uptake is expected to be less than 50% according to local surveys.

Hiroshima like those before them promising more tests was just empty words

Yes, empty words. And logistical difficulties.

But people would have not been anyway. What's the point to make a random test if no symptoms, not being a contact case and not taking any risk. The chance to be found positive is nearly zero.

For the number of tests, I said a few times before that the report was mentioning the number for the tests done 3 days before, but it is just a way of reporting for reference, and positive cases are also from one or two days before, therefore Monday and Tuesday. On the J TV, this was also said a few days ago that most of results do now arrive within one or two days.

Why test non-symptomatic people?

Agree with you for random tests, not contact tracing.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

The number is randomly decided within a certain region

What does this mean?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Expect tomorrow's numbers to be significantly higher, because they will have Monday's test results.

You must be new here. The number is randomly decided within a certain region, and bears no noticeable relation at all to the number of tests.

On Sundays nearly 30% of tests are positive for example but then the next day for example way more tests but similar number of tests 10 or 15 % positive. It is similar week after week

This.

Expect ~500 new cases tomorrow.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

1621 tests is excellent - no it’s akireta monda

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Why test non-symptomatic people?

Because people can carry the virus and spread it even if they have no symptoms, and then somebody at risk could catch it and pass away stuck in a hospital and not be able to even say goodbye to their loved ones .

9 ( +11 / -2 )

Also What is fascinating about Sundays, when indeed there are less tests than other day, is that number of cases is still somewhat similar to the other days when then can be 5 or 6 times the number of tests. On Sundays nearly 30% of tests are positive for example but then the next day for example way more tests but similar number of tests 10 or 15 % positive. It is similar week after week,

4 ( +4 / -0 )

They said they stopped contact tracing in Tokyo hence the less tests ( and cases found)

not just on Sundays.

Hiroshima like those before them promising more tests was just empty words

9 ( +10 / -1 )

Good to see numbers going

Hiroshima has now cut the mass pcr test from 800,000 to8,000 and uptake is expected to be less than 50% according to local surveys.

4 ( +9 / -5 )

They do not authorize routine or contact-tracing tests on Sundays.

Its fortunate that the virus takes Sundays off.

11 ( +12 / -1 )

Because they just know, the real number of infections and circulating viruses stays the same, with no testing or with 100,000 testings. lol

6 ( +8 / -2 )

1621 tests on a Sunday (2/7). Sandy is correct. They do not authorize routine or contact-tracing tests on Sundays. Expect tomorrow's numbers to be significantly higher, because they will have Monday's test results.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Why test non-symptomatic people?

If everything that youre doing doesnt seem to work, might as well try that also, at least youre doing something that many people believe works by itself

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

You’ll be waiting a long time for a vaccine in Japan. They don’t even have enough needles.

12 ( +15 / -3 )

1621 tests is excellent. It means that there were so few people showing any symptoms to command, and time taken from medical facilities to be tested. Why test non-symptomatic people? The numbers dying here are nothing.

But still, my family and I are waiting eagerly for a vaccine.

-21 ( +9 / -30 )

The number of tests is hilarious. Nothing to see here people. Back to work. Lol

18 ( +19 / -1 )

1,621 tests in the most populated and crowded metropolitan area in the world.

All in the name of the Olympics and corporations.

18 ( +21 / -3 )

1,621 tests... seriously?!

13 ( +18 / -5 )

And only 1,621 tests

12 ( +16 / -4 )

And yes 30% infection rate

8 ( +13 / -5 )

Infected aged below 20 arent listed anymore, hope thats because theyre too few
