''Wonder if testing capacity will keep being increased - slowly - or capped again at a certain point.''
Capped until everyone gets used to 500 a day as 'normal'. With the Olympics all go it looks like they found the testing sweetspot for 500.

I haven't read any comments here about shutting down the economy/businesses. There is no authority to do that anyway. The very least the government can do though is be transparent, and allow people who want to be tested to get tested so the numbers being reported are representative of actual reality.

Number of tests increased slightly, number if infections increased.
Wonder if testing capacity will keep being increased - slowly - or capped again at a certain point.
Also, do expect lower numbers during the long weekend due to no staff to check the fax machines, and to test.
Oh, and Go To Travel this long weekend, but please just ensure you don't dine with more than a group of 5! According to the government that’s totally safe.

Have to agree with the "capped" comments - it's obvious there is a deliberate effort to suppress testing numbers, hence the prohibitively expensive cost (if you want to pay), the lack of testing centers, and the excessive criteria a patient has to meet before the health consultation centers agree to test them. 6880 tests today in a city of 13 million people with hundreds of hospitals and even more clinics. A total sham.

Actually, it's a lot worse in Hokkaido at the moment. Must be nerve cracking to go anywhere there. About 200 infections less than Tokyo but their population is 5 million versus 37 million in Tokyo.

Note that, of the six people waiting in line in the photo, one is a 'chin mask' 'wearer.'
Keep it up.

As an American, I am envious of Japan's Covid-19 statistics.

I see numbers like this a lot here. Let's get things straight. The metropolitan government's figures for infection refer to the Tokyo Metropolis (東京都), population a fraction under 14 million, not to the Greater Tokyo region, which includes the metropolis itself and the surrounding prefectures.
If you take a look at the map on this page:
https://www.fukushihoken.metro.tokyo.lg.jp/iryo/kansen/todokedehcyouseisya.html
you can see which areas belong to the metropolis and the confirmed cases for each on a daily basis.

im thinking to buy a motorcycle helmet and use it in the train.
Well, at anywhere from 8,000 to 21.000 Yen, sure. Why not?
Or you could just spend around 2,000 Yen on a couple of re-usable/washable masks.
I hope you choose the helmet. That would be funny.

At the time of writing 20 out of 21 agree with this .

Absolutely astonishing. Almost everyone here believes that the Olympics drives the COVID19 daily tests in Japan.
What is it really about the Olympics ? Am I missing something ? Is this about money ?
