''Wonder if testing capacity will keep being increased - slowly - or capped again at a certain point.''

Capped until everyone gets used to 500 a day as 'normal'. With the Olympics all go it looks like they found the testing sweetspot for 500.

Not worth killing the economy for, especially small/family businesses

I haven't read any comments here about shutting down the economy/businesses. There is no authority to do that anyway. The very least the government can do though is be transparent, and allow people who want to be tested to get tested so the numbers being reported are representative of actual reality.

Number of tests increased slightly, number if infections increased.

Wonder if testing capacity will keep being increased - slowly - or capped again at a certain point.

Also, do expect lower numbers during the long weekend due to no staff to check the fax machines, and to test.

Oh, and Go To Travel this long weekend, but please just ensure you don't dine with more than a group of 5! According to the government that’s totally safe.

Have to agree with the "capped" comments - it's obvious there is a deliberate effort to suppress testing numbers, hence the prohibitively expensive cost (if you want to pay), the lack of testing centers, and the excessive criteria a patient has to meet before the health consultation centers agree to test them. 6880 tests today in a city of 13 million people with hundreds of hospitals and even more clinics. A total sham.

I really feel bad for all of you in Tokyo. It must be nerve wracking every time you step out your door

Actually, it's a lot worse in Hokkaido at the moment. Must be nerve cracking to go anywhere there. About 200 infections less than Tokyo but their population is 5 million versus 37 million in Tokyo.

Note that, of the six people waiting in line in the photo, one is a 'chin mask' 'wearer.'

Keep it up.

As an American, I am envious of Japan's Covid-19 statistics.

20 million plus

37 million

I see numbers like this a lot here. Let's get things straight. The metropolitan government's figures for infection refer to the Tokyo Metropolis (東京都), population a fraction under 14 million, not to the Greater Tokyo region, which includes the metropolis itself and the surrounding prefectures.

If you take a look at the map on this page:

https://www.fukushihoken.metro.tokyo.lg.jp/iryo/kansen/todokedehcyouseisya.html

you can see which areas belong to the metropolis and the confirmed cases for each on a daily basis.

im thinking to buy a motorcycle helmet and use it in the train.

Well, at anywhere from 8,000 to 21.000 Yen, sure. Why not?

Or you could just spend around 2,000 Yen on a couple of re-usable/washable masks.

I hope you choose the helmet. That would be funny.

Even with my extra steps realize I’m not a hundred percent safe until everyone gets on board this virus is real and can be deadly.*

You must be a lot of fun at parties!

Why- you must be a lot of fun at funerals.

It really isn't . Everything is cushty actually. Especially today with the lovely weather

So if the Covid numbers exceed deaths from heart disease we then have a problem to be taken seriously?

Most definitely. And reacted to appropriately.

The censor police will be here soon anyway. What's the point of striking a dialogue...

At the time of writing 20 out of 21 agree with this .

6000 tests in a city of 20 million plus in the midst of a surge ...pathetic attempt to maintain tatemae and Japan is " safety country " , welcome Olympic s BS.

Here 19 out of 20

Absolutely astonishing. Almost everyone here believes that the Olympics drives the COVID19 daily tests in Japan.

What is it really about the Olympics ? Am I missing something ? Is this about money ?

This morning on the train I witnessed a woman with no mask on. She stared at me with mask which happens to be the one with the filter plus my shield. I gave her the your ignorant look.

> Second train, I stand in front of a guy who had his mask below his nose and one look at my get up he covered his nose, quickly.

Mail a letter, could get the Rona.

Need a little coffee at 7, could get the Rona.

Want to rent a DVD at Tsutaya, could get the Rona.

KFC, Rona. Super market. Take a walk, Rona Rona Rona!

Eh, Awful.
