Vinke is correct. Also if you are over 67 you cannot donate. Plus if you do not read or understand Japanese well as there is a form that must be filled out, and nobody wants or can translate, you cannot donate.

They put a sign outside the trucks listing blood types they want, but usually the RH factor is not listed and that is quite important. But since they are in short supply now, I am sure someone will help you out.

At least you won't have to cough out any Yen for the PCR test. Not sure if you can use that one for travel purposes though.

One way to be tested and not to pay is go and donate blood when their is call out and they will automatically test for the coronavirus as well as HIV if you have a worry of having that. I plan to donate the next time there is a bus set up by my next station.

Good idea, works for some. Just be sure to check the criteria before you go, as not everyone are eligible to donate. For example I can't donate blood in Japan, as I've resided in some European countries on their no go-list between 1980 and the present day. Majority of European countries are on that list..

Guys i agree these numbers of tests are ridiculous for a developed nation and very sad to see ... It is like flying completely blind in a massive storm, only to then realize that you are heading for a huge mountain and you have no chance of avoiding the crash. And the worst part is, it could have been prevented ... and that's not just the government's fault.

Those who are not affected should put themselves in the shoes of the people who are ... show solidarity and try to get a grip on the situation. Do your best even if it is tiring. I believe you can do this! And please use your vote wisely next time in the hope of a change in your government ... unbelievable.

So many of yuo so hung up on the test numbers. Let's say 5000 healthy people demand to get tested. Maybe one or two might have a false positive. There is no reason to test healthy people.

Oh yes, I did not hear any ambulances in my 8.7 kilometer walk.

They still have posters up from four different reputable companies advertising home PCR testing kits at local chain drug stores. So if you are paranoid, cough out some bucks. If not sit back and trust in what the government is doing. I am.

Positive results from non medical institutions are included in the total, yet test conducted by these non medical institutions are not. Thats a major reason why Positive rates and test numbers no longer match.

@Fiddler No, I don’t call for those ‘vaccines’ , developed under stress, uncontrolled, certified under panic and with significant severe side effects. Of course I am not against vaccinations with a working and not dangerous one, although this also won’t solve the problem. I just call for a 70 days plus sigma lockdown to extinguish the virus completely or nearly completely to get our normal life back or the rest of it. And I mean a lockdown which deserves its name , not all those stupid trials of a ‘lockdown’ that have led to nothing else than spending too much valued time and spreading the viruses further, by the way everywhere on the planet, not only here, and now also in other mutations and variants, leading possibly to a setback of all efforts.

I am afraid that unless we have a National SOE declared, as we did in April by Abe, then nothing will change. I know few places that have abided by the 10pm request - I doubt the 8pm request will have much effect either.

The April/May SOE may not have have been forcefully imposed by law, did have the desired effect of keeping people off the streets and out of Restaurants/Shops.

Personally, I don't agree with lockdowns - full stop. They haven't really been effective anywhere else in the world apart from those VERY few countries (Aus/NZ/Taiwan) that have also completely closed their borders apart from their own citizens who have actually had go through a proper quarantine. UK is basically in its third lockdown noiw - and to what effect? Anyway, as we all know, the lockdwn that many clamour for on this website simply isn't going to happen

It IS too late now - we can try enforcing social distancing, but the sheer density of people in Tokyo and the Prefectures make it almost impossible acheive.

In the case of Japan - Vaccines are the way out, but once again - Japan will be slow to approve, so don't hold your breath.

Imagine if the promised 60,000 tests a day promised over and over again were actually happening.

Or imagine testing hundreds of thousands a day, like other developed countries/economies are doing now. I wonder the number of real cases.

However this will never happen as getting tested remains a mission impossible, even if you have symptoms.

The number is the result of 2,067 tests conducted on Jan 1.

Few weeks back there used to be 300-400 cases out of 10,000. Today its 884/2067. This is getting crazy!

Over 40 percent of tests are positive. Come on Japan, do something already. Fools.

The 7-day average is even at 10.3% now, excluding the data from today (!), compared to ~3% early November.

For those saying they don't hear many ambulances, or those who "mathematically" argument daily here that is is just 0.00..% of the Tokyo population: you still don't understand that the hospitals are now 70-80% full, and this is with the limited testing where many people stay sick kat home and die there. I am still confused as to why these poster will (without any doubt) pop up again under this comment, spreading misinformation about the severity of this virus.
