to this exponential increasing development.

Took a look at the graph in toyokeizai, it does look exponential from some poinr in november to some point in january, but stopped being so after that, dropping off actually in recent days.

Hopefully it continues on that course

@ Kurisupusu

There is a lot of advice about how to deal with fever and illness on line. Please do a search and all I will say is tell your friend to stay very well hydrated and keep an eye on 'warning' signs, that is more important than loss of appetite.

Just commenting because your posts sound frustrated. I hope they feel better soon.

A year ago all were happy when the numbers were still below 100, now everyone celebrates numbers again slightly below 1000 and next year we’ll have country-wide victory over corona parties with numbers below 10000. You only prefer to lie to yourself, that’s the real problem with those daily numbers and the reaction , or better let’s say no reaction at all, to this exponential increasing development.

No, it is not working.

My friend, having been told to remain home cannot even wash his own clothing, cannot cook, (no energy) nor eat 99% of food that he has (no appetite)

Without a support group, he might as well be out in the desert...

If it’s been over a year yet we all here still posting about the virus could mean it’s either real or the virus is very weak or targeted.

Lately, close to every call to the covid hotline is forced to get tested via private clinic, that is why the “sudden decrease” without any apparent reason.

Positive cases from private clinics do not count to the official daily tally.

We are talking about tens of thousands of tests per day, as private clinics have more testing capacity these days.

Coincidence?

True. You’d have to be gullible to believe the Japanese media reports.

The numbers of individuals admitted to hospitals are accurate and easily accessed. Using those numbers it can be determined, fairly accurately, the number of actual infections in the population at large.

The last sentence is so utterly false its laughable. Do you also believe that the number of cancer patients in hospitals reflects the number of people with cancer in the general population?

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Private clinic testing. Inagawa Taro, Director of the Kinoshita center in Shinjuku, in Tokyo,"...test results should not be taken as definitive proof of infection anyway." The use of saliva tests, has been judged 70% inaccurate among asymptomatic individuals in a peer reviewed, controlled field test.

The continual harping by individuals who are not medical professionals and seem to never have examined research papers or peer reviewed studies is entertaining, as they conclude that their rather biased opinions reflect fact. The numbers of individuals admitted to hospitals are accurate and easily accessed. Using those numbers it can be determined, fairly accurately, the number of actual infections in the population at large.

Testing has a specific determinant and there is no point to testing en masse. Testing at points of entry or within clusters is purposeful and assists in staving off the spread of the virus.

A study by has shown that the GoToTravel campaign is a primary source of the increase in cases of covid. That program has finally terminated and consequently numbers will begin to abate over a period of a month or so. Which presupposes following protocols, which on a whole have remained in place. The effectiveness of such protocols has been attested to by numerous studies.

There is no evidence of a conspiracy to tamp down the numbers of individuals with covid. Being sloppy and haphazard is not an indication that those in power are conspiring to purposefully put a spin on the pandemic. As if that was even possible. That those who deem a government that is inept can contrary to that assessment, organize an effective and purposeful means to under-report numbers of infections, is absurd.

Proof it is working

It has been a year now, if it wasnt working the dead would be all over the place, confirmed covid related or not

A friend of mine was tested within an hour of arriving at the hospital- he was positive.

He had a visit from the the government officials after his test to his home, forms to fill out and instructions not to go out.

He would be all alone if he had not a group of friends supporting him with food deliveries.

He should stay at home and he is not able to eat.

It is a mess...

the hospitals refuse to even test her unless she has been in contact with another positive person as well as showing severe symptoms.

Severe symptoms? Are you sure?

Many media articles over the past few months. But here’s a recent one:

https://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/news/backstories/1472/

“(...) And since private clinics are not obligated to inform the government of positive results, there is a fear that infection numbers are being underreported.“

Very questionable reporting. Shouldn't it read "private test center”? These places have no doctors and shouldn't be labeled as clinics. Also, since they can't and don't treat you, you are expected to go to a real medical facility for treatment, where they would then report the case.

So on the one hand, you have young people showing little symptoms that might not go see a doctor, and it won't get reported.

On the other hand, the positivity rate increases because only those that got a positive result will then go see a doctor, where the infection will be reported. This is one of the reasons why weekends/holidays have a ridiculously high positivity rate, as regular clinics are closed and only these private test centers are open.

I just want to post a quote from japan.times re inaccuracy of results, we must be careful just the same even if tested negative and seek confirmation if tested positive.

adding to the worry is the inherent fallibility of PCR testing, which can’t entirely rule out the possibility of false negatives or false positives — a weakness further compounded by the absence of doctors at some private institutions.

you stated private clinic outperform official tests and carry out tebs of thosand of tests a day

no, I didn't.

and to buttress your false assertion you are quoting Shinbashi clinic with one if not most tests at 1,000 test a day in city of 14M, you need to come up with something better

I have no clue what this sentence means. Please calm down and repost in a coherent manner.

When something seems too good to be true, it usually is.

I have a coworker who has been off for two weeks now and the hospitals refuse to even test her unless she has been in contact with another positive person as well as showing severe symptoms. She is currently on unpaid leave.

10 ( +10 / -0 )

Also, the shinbashi clinic which was highlighted on this very site a few weeks back does over 1000 tests per day,

The official numbers are correct.

Everything else fake news and misinformation.

If you are calling the numbers genuine, then I can feel pretty sure they are fake.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

You're sending contradictory messages.

Do positive cases from private clinics count or not?

Yes, they count,

-12 ( +1 / -13 )

@Ken

@AG

Positive cases from private clinics do not count to the official daily tally.

Genuine question, not doubting you are correct but, what’s your source on this information?

The general public has no more information than what's being fed to them by the Japanese media. It's not like the regular Japanese citizen reads foreign news sources.

And which foreign news source has more information about COVID-19 infections in Japan? All they do is translate what Japanese media has reported.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

The numbers may have fallen a little on this day. However, a thousand cases a day is still nothing to celebrate.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

that's a sweet spot where oficial hospitals delegate responsibilities to private ones, and the numbers disappear in the dark.

9 ( +9 / -0 )

Legally all clinics and hospitals who do PCR test and also confirm any deaths caused by Covid is supposed to be reported to the WHO but not gonna happens.

10 ( +10 / -0 )

PRC tests up to 101k ... why? Numbers are going down? Yeah BS!

4 ( +6 / -2 )

Positive numbers are almost all included, if you get a positive result you are told to contact the health authorities. I posted the same thing weeks ago, when people were posting about the high positive percentage.

-9 ( +2 / -11 )

https://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/news/backstories/1472/

Above is the link highlighting that there is no requirement from private clinics to inform the government of positive PCR results. The person who tests positive is encouraged to inform a health consultation center, but that's all.

Positive cases from private clinics count in the official daily tally

This is factually not true - there is no requirement for private clinics to report their numbers. Not only was this reported in an nhk article but I have a friend who works in a clinic and they confirm they do not report their numbers. Also, the shinbashi clinic which was highlighted on this very site a few weeks back does over 1000 tests per day, so it's very likely the combined tests of other clinics runs into the several thousands.

10 ( +11 / -1 )

Not true, Positive cases from private clinics count in the official daily tally, Every positive test from a private has to be confirmed with an official pcr test.

fudging the numbers like they are this is really going to bite them.

No it won't. They will continue to fudge and deny no matter what. The general public and media will stay silent because, well, shoganai ne.

Serious question...If I don't believe these numbers am I a conspiracy theorist? Because it should work both ways, no matter what side of the fence you are on.

Can you actually understand how illogical your being? Think about what you are writing and see if it makes any sense, especially your last sentence.

Great news, the downward trend continues.

-5 ( +5 / -10 )

During the new year it was like the world was gonna end. Now the ( official ) numbers are miraculously going down. I’m not buying that. “Japan model” actually means the J-gov is hiding the facts. It’s the only thing they’re good at.

11 ( +12 / -1 )

Bogus

Numbers don’t suddenly drop in cases this swiftly with a no lock down enforced. I spell bs

13 ( +17 / -4 )

Yes, you are exactly right, more and more people are going to private clinics rather than having to jump through hoops trying to beg a government facility they meet the testing criteria.
