I was in Ginza today (yes, I know I shouldn't have been there), and it was crowded with shoppers. Cafes were full. It's as if Japanese people have decided to live with the virus and are no longer upset by the daily reports. That attitude is beginning to rub off on me. I'm starting to become numb to these daily reports of coronavirus case numbers. It's like sports results. I know that can't be a good thing.

As for Japan, looks like they only test the people who are really feeling sick

No Japan basically test no one. Even if you are sick and have been working with a confirmed covid case in office, they tell you that you were both wearing masks and you are not eligible for a free covid test until you become severely ill and needs hospitalization. Tests are restricted behind an extremely high hurdle of around 30,000 yen testing fee.

I guess they are saving those tests for Olympic athletes.

20+ Positive in my wife’s hospital here in Kobe. Lung scans looked like spiders nesting in the lungs she said. Only testing staff and patients once, ticking time bomb.

Probably because of the low death count. But for me, I don't want to get sick, not even slightly, so I'm social distancing all the way to the vaccine days.

As for Japan, looks like they only test the people who are really feeling sick...

hence "low" level of test and "high" positive ratio.

Either it is good or bad way of doing is up for debate.

I would love Japan to be able to debate that.

It's very sad that nobody voices an opinion about the number of tests performed.

People are getting tired of the numbers of cases every day.

People are getting worried of the numbers of cases every day. Fixed 4 u.

My local izakaya was choc full of people last night talking about an awful cluster of 20 infections at a snack bar down the road. I think everyone agreed more caution was required, but it was hard to hear as it was quite noisy in there.

Ginza in Tokyo? Because I went there today and it was not like that at all. Decent crowd but cafes were not full at all.

Everyday, you post about how we should lockdown, coronavirus is rampant, we should stop go-to etc and yet you go to Ginza?

But no measures by either Suga or Koike, staring eachother down like in a western duel, waiting for the other to blink.

The Price ? PM in September. Playing roulette with the life's of all of us.

The number of deaths might be of interest,no? Or is that at a later time too? Lol.

Just click on the link in the above article and then click on "Click here to see a running total of deaths over time".

I think looking at the death counts each day would be a good way to tell what is happening and maybe counting the ambulances running past your abode might help too.

I was at shin-Misato in Saitama having lunch at ikea and it was crowded as H. No one is staying home in Japan I bet ya

Hate to say the obvious, the necessary precaution is what matters to the people. 10, 50, 100, 1000, 10000 what ever the case, isn't going to matter, not like the pandemic is over, and you just go back to 1992. The cases is only important to those setting the policy, and guess what, if they don't care then you can't do squat about it.

I think as long as you’re aware of the risks, you’re fine to do as you like, while there’s still no lockdown at least. Don’t let these people guilt trip you, making you believe you’re doing something wrong. We’re all human.

I was lucky enough to go to Kyoto around 6 weeks back, not long after Tokyo was added to the Go to travel campaign, and it was completely dead. I loved it. All the tourist spots had hardly any people. I’m not sure why it’s become so busy lately. Probably because Osaka and Sapporo were taken off the campaign, that would be the best guess. I just wish I took advantage of it more and went to Sapporo before it became crazy again, damn it!

Update to my 5/12 post now 40+ nurses confirmed and still not testing everyone daily only when they show symptoms. Should rename the hospital Diamondo Plinsessu! Can’t get the wife to quit!!!

About the number of test....

I think that in Europe and USA they try to test as many people as possible,

either sick or not sick, and they get high number with all asymptomatic people.

As for Japan, looks like they only test the people who are really feeling sick...

hence "low" level of test and "high" positive ratio.

Either it is good or bad way of doing is up for debate.

I just don't believe my eyes ! How ? Why ? What was so important ?

I kill those invisible beasts right away out of my throat with alcohol beverages and yusugarashi spiced skewers at my favorite yakitoriya. That’s how they die in legions and how I teach them once and for all to stay away. lol

584 ...trending up even if the number of tests is capped around the 7 to 8 thousand daily.

What happened to the "pledged" 60 to 200 thousand daily tests...Yoshi ? Shinzo?....crickets.

that’s for Tokyo , not the country. The article doesn’t say how many tests were carried out nationally.

When I ask them how many cases, how many tests they have, they always answer, we dont know. Not interested anymore.

People are getting tired of the numbers of cases every day.

I agree, lot of people don’t care and it’s not hard to understand why, if we have to wear masks and social distance and STILL see the numbers climbing, what else can a person do but just not dwell on it. When I go to the Studio no one talks about COVID, everyone acts as if it doesn’t exist, so I definitely agree with you on that one.

@smartacus

I'm starting to become numb to these daily reports of coronavirus case numbers

Dont worry! Me too! I am checking the numbers every day, but I didnt give so much attention to it like in the beginning of the Pandemic.

But that is everywhere in the world. My friends in my home country stopped already to check numbers many weeks ago. And my home country looks really bad.

When I ask them how many cases, how many tests they have, they always answer, we dont know. Not interested anymore.

People are getting tired of the numbers of cases every day.
