Gee that’s a surprise…not!

Court is used very loosely in Japan…rubber stamp organisation following the government’s orders is more truthful…

So, Thats it. Game over.

All of you can now burn your protesting picking signs in a giant bomb fire.

We need a Governor (PRO) SOFA who welcomes the servise my goverment provides its host nation for its National defense. Not Gov. Denny Tamaki. Who contuines to sew discord and spread disent with Japanese nationals living in Okinawa.

-3 ( +8 / -11 )

What the Okinawan people want is not a resolution to the base issue, but economic independence and job security.

No one needs a governor who is not attracting private companies and is just wasting taxpayers' money. Denny Tamaki's actions only please China.

He will probably start an election campaign for Okinawan independence soon.

They have completely forgotten that without the annual subsidy from the Japanese people, Okinawa would not even be able to become independent.

As we have been saying time and time again the US basis serve only the interests of the big industrial military complex back in Washington, enriching the warlords who controls the lobbies in Wall Stret. Japan does not need protection from a bogus threat created by the White House to flare up tensions in the continent where America does not belong. Japan needs dialogue and diplomacy, nobody is invading, only the documented crimes of US servicemen in Okinawa are real.

Fos; spoken truthfully, I likes that. japan taxes for the benefit of the japanese people. should lead to a japan diplomatic lead to solve the smokescreens and mirrors rip-off.

In case anyone forgot, the modified plan was needed because the Japanese government failed to properly survey the seabed, and found a very soft section where reclaiming land would be impossible without driving piles into the section down nearly 100 metres to the solid seabed. This gave Okinawa prefecture another opportunity to oppose the previously approved plan.

US base bashing it past it's time. It was fine while Japan enjoyed peace Post WWII sor some 80 years. But with global events as they are today, neither Japan nor the U.S. are interested in listening to the anti-base crowd. They accept their necessity and should focus on resolving issues under the current SOFA arrangement.

Japan does not need protection from a bogus threat

Japan needs protection from the State run, massive military industrial complex in Beijing. Japan cant just ignore daily incursions by China around the Senkaku islands by the largest navy in the world, hovering around those islands looking to make them Chinese. China also aims to wrest control of Philippines territorial waters using the same methods of "crowding" the owners out.

These are not the acts of a friendly nation, but of one that requires close attention and a united and firm response by effected friendly nations. China is not to be trusted. Chinese promises are hollow. CCP are treacherous in the extreme.

Japan like everyone else will need to keep eyes on Xi, Putin and Trump for the next few years, and try to be ready for anything.

Not unexpected at all.

He will probably start an election campaign for Okinawan independence soon.

No he won't, as only those off the far deep end would even consider this at all. The people here dont want independence

The anti-Beijing hysteria is not justified. If you look at the history it was Japan who invaded China, and it was US who fabricated a bogus attack (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gulf_of_Tonkin_incident) to initiate the devastating war in Vietnam. And now the manipulated narrative  spread by Washington is trying to make up the Filipinos skirmishes a casus belli.

The US administration is trying to compensate Manila with more military investments, it is a fact, therefore the story about China and Philippines alleged exchange are not real. No need to be an historian to know who the father of the present Filipino leader was: a close US ally (https://www.npr.org/2023/11/25/1206230028/here-lies-love-imelda-marcos-broadway-philippines)

Simply not credible!

The anti-Beijing hysteria is not justified.

Of course it is. And its not hysteria, it is actual Chinese activities right now, not some quote about history. China are daily making incursions around the Senkaku islands, that is undeniable fact.

China is trying to claim ownership of international waters in the South China sea, again irrefutable fact, and "skirmishes" with Philippines in Philippines EEZ as reported by a number of nations, journalists and recorded in radio conversations can not be turned into something else.

China is belligerent and hostile and is simply not to be trusted. Thankfully nobody is buying into the "friendly rise" of China. It is not friendly and not good for anyone.

Desperate attempt to justify more weapon sales from the US industrial military complex. Simple as that. People can try as much as they want, simply there’s no credible evidence and Asia doesn’t want another war like the ones sponsored by US in Ukraine and Middle East

It is reassuring atleast to see some opposition in Japanese to the presence and activities of these foreign forces over there in their country.

Jaswinder Sandhu: "It is reassuring atleast to see some opposition in Japanese to the presence and activities of these foreign forces over there in their country."

As reassuring as any time you see old people shouting at clouds, yes. It means they have nothing actually pressing to protest against.

Historically, China has a history of growing larger by invading and annexing neighboring countries while massacring them, dating back to around the time of the Shang dynasty.

Japan was also invaded by China during the Yuan dynasty.

And even now, Japanese territory is being invaded.

How many times has Vietnam been invaded?

The first time Japan fought back against China was during the Sino-Japanese and Sino-Japanese wars.

There is no way that China is always the victim.

Are Chinese history textbooks full of nothing but lies? lol

Shamefully, top court only assisted arrogance of LDP regime that destruct beautiful seacoast and intend to waste trillions to construction of mere run way where even its completion is doubtful.

Once again, desperate attempts by the US industrial military complex to manipulate the narrative and justify the huge orders of weapons made in America.

First of all: Yuan dynasty: We are talking about over 600 years ago, not that difficult to find out. It is like the biggest genocide in history it was the one on the natives americans. But I am not going to play that card. It shows lack of judgements from your supervisors

Both First and Second Sino-Japanese wars were about Japan expansionism. Which, in the case of the latter, the Japanese have trouble to admit despite the Manchurian historical mass killings.

What about Vietnam? It was one of the most devastating war in the continent, in terns of humans lives lost and disruptions. And the point it was was based on a lie to start with and and unreasonable principle.

Barren arms race between aging countries each other is just absurd and waste and worthless, only arms industries are happy.

The next step is the independence referendum for Okinawa.

The only way to remove US troops from Okinawa is to go independent.

-9 ( +0 / -9 )

Here, the full contempt of USA military occupation on full display.

As reassuring as any time you see old people shouting at clouds, yes. It means they have nothing actually pressing to protest against.

Shamefully, top court only assisted arrogance of LDP regime that destruct beautiful seacoast and intend to waste trillions to construction of mere run way where even its completion is doubtful.

Please get off the high horse here. No one, absolutely NO ONE complained about the destruction of the seacoast when all the landfills, literally all around the island were or are, being built. Hypocrites I say.

The next step is the independence referendum for Okinawa.

Never happen, as no one wants independence.

The only way to remove US troops from Okinawa is to go independent.

No, actually this is 100% false. There are other ways, it's just the JAPANESE government doesnt see it as in their best interests to do so.

Answer me this, how do you differentiate between "Okinawan'" and "Japanese" when and if your suggested referendum or any vote, ever occurred?

You going to racial profile those who can or can not vote? Do blood tests?

2 ( +3 / -1 )

We are talking about independence from US military industrial complex, not Japan. A territory free from the US marines, where local women are not harassed and above all where the narrative does not get manipulated by the usual suspects about a fantasy invasion by a neighboring country. And the environment issue is indeed a real problem along the coral reef of the island, but legacy media prevents from talking about

In every litigation involved with the landfill work for Futenma's relocation to Henoko, the Okinawa Prefectural Government (OPG) has lost to the central government completely. Doesn't the OPG know there is no separation of powers in the Japanese political system and that the judicial and executive branches are all part of the same gang? They are all part of the same gang.

And so, I propose the OPG change its current litigation strategy. Futenma is an illegal property per se because it sits on illegally confiscated private lands. In other words, the U.S. Marines are using Futenma, and occupying the base, like illegal squatters, and so they have no right at all to demand for a replacement to be provided in exchange for the return of it.

Squatters have no right to demand for a replacement in exchange for the return of the land they illegally occupy.

Some commentor says the issue has been settled by the 1972 Okinawa Reversion Agreement, but can a mere bilateral agreement rescind the offences committed by the illegal squatters?

Note that no one is demanding for a compensation.

We are talking about independence from US military industrial complex

No, they aren't. But anyone using the exact same term in almost every single post would suggest they get paid for each instance of using that term. It also means posts from such a source lack all credibility and originality.

Unlike China where their "military industrial complex" is state owned and run, the US industry is not government owned and run. China has a manufacturing capacity that out strips even the US as proven by China surpassing the US in ship building for its navy, (now the biggest in the world). This would show China is warmongering and the threat is well and truly necessitating close attention from Japan and indeed all nations who depend on trade through the region, much of which does not involve China at all.

If China was not trying to attain dominance, there would be less need for close attention and reciprocal actions to mitigate the threat China poses.

To anyone who opposes my opinion:

I want to hear his or her opinion as to why the U.S. Marines are using the land where the Futenma air station sits legally, i.e., in accordance with international law.

Or did the 1972 Okinawa Reversion Agreement rescind the irregularities committed by U.S. occupation forces?
