Tottori Prefecture is hosting a Pokémon GO Safari Zone event in the famous Tottori Sand Dunes from Friday through Sunday. Trainers of all ages will be able to catch a wide variety of Pokémon, including some rarely seen throughout the country, while exploring the largest sand dunes in Japan.
Pokémon GO Safari Zone summer events were held in Europe, in select Unibail-Rodamco shopping centers and featuring regional Pokémon from all across the world. Events were held in Paris, Barcelona, Copenhagen, Prague, Stockholm and Amstelveen.
There was also a Pokémon GO Week in South Korea from Nov 4-12.
All Pokémon GO Safari Zone events will give Trainers the opportunity to catch a wide variety of Pokémon in special zones. In Japan, there are some Pokémon never before encountered in Europe.
Trainers will also have the chance to obtain a special Safari Zone in-game medal.

I actually wanted to go for this event but yep, hotel issues. Wasn't the smartest move to host it in a place that doesn't have the room capacity for this kind of event. It's cool for small towns to host a Pokemon Go event as a way of revitalizing tourism in areas that haven't been doing well but please make sure you have the infrastructure and room capacity first. The number of people that show up is no joke.

I was planning to go visit friends in Tottori (Yonago, Tottori City) and hit some hot springs, but upon checking hotel availability there is NOTHING. The closest hotel I found to downtown Tottori was about 15 km from the station, and they were asking 50,000 / night for a single room when the rate was normally near 10,000. No thanks. My friends who live there said there were places in Yonago still, but zero in Tottori. I think I'll wait, since all buses and trains are booked for the weekend, too.
