An 80-year-old man standing on a platform was hit by an oncoming train which sent him flying into two other commuters, injuring them, in Fujimi, Saitama Prefecture, on Friday.
According to police, the incident occurred at around 10:45 a.m. Friday on the platform at Mizuhodai Station on the Tobu Tojo Line, Fuji TV reported. Witnesses said the man appeared to lean over the edge of the platform and peer down onto the tracks as the train was coming into the station. The impact sent him flying into two women, aged 82 and 25.
Police said the man was pronounced dead at the scene while the two women were taken to hospital with head and other injuries. They were in a stable condition on Saturday.
The train operator said 34 services were delayed, affecting about 14,000 commuters.

Condolences to the family and hoping the women who got hurt recover quickly. I can not imagine having to tell people the story..."How did you get hurt?" "Oh I was waiting for a train and suddenly this old guy came flying through the air and hit me..." No thanks.

Suicide? He would have had to have been meaning pretty far over to get knocked so hard as to send him flying.

The 2 women and the 14,000 inconvenienced passengers and the train company will be able to demand compensation from old man's wife children and grandchildren. Seeing as how Japan likes to spread the responsibility around, similar to another country in Northeast Asia.

The story seems more consistent with the old man having dropped something on the tracks and looking over the edge to try to see it than it is with suicide. Suicides by train usually involve people junping in front of one, not leaning and looking down at the tracks, which would be an incredibly strange way of doing it.

He was probably peering down the tracks trying to work out why the train wasn’t coming despite having just heard the platform announcement... only for the train to actually be coming the other way and hit him from behind.

There was a video circulating only a few months ago where a guy attempted suicide and got flung back to the station platform knocking over two guys in the process - watch yourself out people.
